New Sundancer Teaser

I was on the debut model at the FLIBS and on another in Miami - neither one had a top at all. I'm glad to hear that changed - I'll go looking for it.

i try not to use my ears at boat shows! In Miami, a guy bumped past me, past the quad outboards and peered into the lazarrette and said, "that's a nice looking engine room".

Ill admit there are a lot of people at boat shows that know nothing about boats.

Yeah I was at the launch for the 510Fly and it didn't have the overhead at first. My dealer has one with the hardtop. It's massive. It does have an opening portion like the L650 Fly. My dealer has it equipped with a KVH HD7 dish. That thing is huge on that boat, but gotta love the HD DirectTV.

So I guess that's what I'm getting at. I'm not convinced that coupes are actually what people want. The public oohs and ahhhs at firework shows, but that doesn't mean they go home and install rocket launchers in their backyards. (well some do) :)

So SeaRay launched the 510 "topless", and then later realized that tops are good...

We'll see what happens with coupes.

Of course we like the "old" boats.....that what we are use to, own and can afford......

I don't understand the criticism of the new profile......guess you just have to see them in the water. As far as the "sit outside cockpit".........y'all do know those doors slide almost all the way open. For those of us in the South, I'll take a telescoping cockpit door as a trade off for a real air conditioned cockpit any day.

I will be the voice of contradiction.... I LOVE the new designs. The older generation Sea Ray's are looking outdated in my opinion....too swooping and they take their shape from whales. That style was great at the time but now it's starting to look "classic".... nothing wrong with owning a classic but would we really want our cars looking like '57 Chevy's today? You need to change at some point. I wouldn't call the new design Euro or Italian either... it's more of an evolution and a sleek design.

When I went back to a bow rider from the Sundancer I considered and mid-2000's Sundeck but they look outdated to me. No offense to anyone who owns one -- just not for me. I owned a brand new 2008 240SD and loved it but it's style is not timeless like the Chris-Crafts and Cobalts. I love Sea Ray but I don't think there are any past designs that someone could call "timeless". All previous generation Sea Rays are very representative of their era. I think my 1997 Cobalt looks better than many brand new bow riders on the market today.

The new designs of the Sundancers are getting closer to a timeless look.

I like the new profile. I just object to the lack of outdoor space. To me it's like never going outside your house because you have a big sliding glass door in the living room.

I just don't understand why boat mfr's decided that we don't want to sit outside in a cockpit. It's not just SeaRay - express boats are a dying breed, and we're seeing "coupes" instead: a single, fwd-facing bench facing a glass wall? Not for me.

I'm totally with you! Where is the sun in the new Sundancers? ...It's true that the open expresse become an enclosed coupe and this is the worse of the European design. I've always loved the american expresses for having large cockpits and lots of room to entertain and sit wit a clear view of the water. Now? It's hard to see the point of a Sea Ray over here!

That drawing looks a lot like a new carver.

This thread is obviously a very small sample size of only a few boat owners. But if we assume the opinions generated here match the overall feel of the entire boat-buying public, then our "older" open cockpit boats should sell like hotcakes on the used market in a few years when there aren't any more being made! :smt038

Who says I need to change? I, like most boaters, vote with my wallet. If I don't like the current product from ANY manufacturer, I can easily choose another manufacturer of a similar product that I like. Speaking strictly for myself here, I probably will never buy another boat. At my age this will likely be my last one and then we'll get out of boating. If I DO buy another it will be much smaller, trailerable, and it won't be a Euro design boat.

As to calling the new design "Euro", that's not my coined phrase, it's one that is used across the industry.

We just bought a 1995 330 Sundancer....i think the 1995-1999 was the best designed cock pit and cabin (with the booth seating) I have ever seen in this size boat. Hence, why I bought this. Where do people usually hangout? the cockpit!

I'm with you about voting with your wallet....however, when I said "you" have to change I was referring to Sea Ray, not any particular person. Let's pick any arbitrary year...say, 2008. If Sea Ray stopped making new designs with the 2008 models they would soon become outdated and all of the people who like those styles will eventually stop buying boats or die. I get it, some people like certain designs and era's but a manufacturer has to stay with the trends in the industry...or be bold and set new trends.

...also looks similar to the Riveria Sports Yacht series of boats. With the series 2 version of the 4400, the glass sliding doors open right up and the roof has a massive sunroof you can open.

If the layout of the new Sea Ray is similar to the above-mentioned Riveria's - I'll like it - to me its similar to having a flybridge boat without the flybridge. It also keeps the living areas separate from the bedrooms which I prefer when having guests on board. It may also have better seakeeping without the sloping nose. Don't get me wrong I prefer the existing Sea Rays profiles better but I think the layout will be superior.....for my use anyway....and in Australia where the sun has a bite to it.

Z, you're not alone. I looked at it earlier and didn't comment because I didn't like it. Still don't, ad I noticed that 131 people have viewed the thread and you and I are the only ones who have commented. So far it's 100% negative.

If I wanted an Italian designed boat I'd buy one. I don't and don't like that SR is trying to copy them.

I'll chime in....I like boats that look like boats. Pointy front, square-ish stern and most importantly, well proportioned. In other words the height should be in proportion to the length and the beam. However, I do like some of the interior styling and I'm not opposed to modern features and conveniences, I just want it in a more traditional package. I guess that's why they make Marlows, Flemings, Ocean Alexanders, etc......

40', massive sunroof, this interior, multi-panel sliding door and zero canvas to fuss with.

What size boat is this? It looks a lot like the 2014, 470 MM has here in SD.

I like the layout, but I am curious what the lower sleeping areas are like.

Regarding the enclosed cockpit, personally that is a bonus for me. Too much fun in the sun when I was young, and subsequent skin damage, so the full hard top enclosure, and then the sliding extenders over the back are a good thing.

Looks great but my 2 cents is it looks like a ferry boat that's designed to just haul folks from one side to the other.....not for me....I'm sure you'll sell a bunch tho.

I like the new cabin, that being said it would change how we boat. Plus most of our friends have open express cruisers or flybridge boats. So it changes boating a lot. It would be nice on hot days to run the generator and not hear it or the blowers. But I haven't been on the boat. At the dock we all talk between boats. Rafted we are in the cockpit or in the water talking. So it will be interesting to see how these boats are used. We are social boaters so we like to talk between boats. The design overall is nice.

It's beautiful, but I will have to wear a Tuxedo when I drive it... I currently only have bathing suites...
