Official 240 Sundancer Thread

Hello, new to sea ray and cruisers in general. Just bought a 1996 240DA. It has a xantrex link 1000 inverter set up and it has an E12 alarm that wont go away. Which is voltage sensor line. I checked and it has power at the link (didnt check atual voltage though, but it did light up test light) and there is no fuse on the line that i can find.

It has 2 batteries port side and one starboard. I thought the starboard was the inverter battery since it is a deep cycle and it was old from 2003 so i replaced that one. The other 2 are new this summer. After replacing the battery all my interior cabin lights quit working. The stereo still works the boat ignition is working. Im so damn confused. i've only found 4 fuses. Only 2 appear to be factory ones and the manual looks like there are only supposed to be 2 factory ones. 1 for bilge and 1 for stereo. not sure what the other 2 power up.

any help at all would be appreciated to track down where the interior lights get there power from. And if anyone knows what the heck to do about the E12 alarm on the inveter.

another question, is there any upgrades that can be made to the 5.7 to bring up the HP from 210 easily?

anyone have a swim step part # 726232 they dont need?

thanks (im sure i'll have many more questions)

Bill
Congrats first off. Secondly. I'm not sure about the interior lights unless you have the switch off at the panel? Have you found the main breaker and checked that?
Here is your manual for the '96 240DA Sundancer

Thats a picture of somebody :) lol

the only panel is the 110 panel. nothing 12V on it.

Sorry Bill. Link fixed.
You don't have a 110VAC and 12VDC panel ?

were practilly neighbors. I used to live in marysville and i bought this boat from marysville.

i'll take a picture of my panel and of a couple other questions i have when i get home tonight.

found the fuse panel, its in the helm, accessed thru the bathroom. lights working now, must have just been a loose connection because no fuses were blown.

still have no idea about the xantrex link error though.

Also, what size prop are most older 240da 5.7 alpha one people using?

Hi guys, looking at the 2010 240 SD, entering the last Q of the year there may be good deals. What's your take on the 2010 model ? I prefer the older models because of the cockpit layout, the new one doesn't have the wet bar and the guy at Marine Max told me it doesn't have the table option either. In place of the wet bar now is a cooler... I'm not a big fan of the new long lounge sit opposite the captain chair, think the split seat with the middle tray looked better.

240SD as in Sundeck or 240DA as in Sundancer?

I know there is not as much headroom in the newer 240's. I could stand up in the cabin in my 2000, but could not in a 2010.

I can speak to the 2010 240 Sundancer since I just bought one. I had looked at this same boat about 2 years ago, but decided to buy now because the price was definitely right. (It's probably too late, but if you're a Costco member ask about the Costco deal)

In terms of cockpit layout, SR definitely took some stuff out, but the openness of the space is great. If you're out with a group of people and a couple of dogs, the amount of extra deck space is nice. In terms of the port side lounger, I think it's nice to have mainly because it gives you one place where someone can lounge. You can also fit three people there unlike the old design where it was two dedicated seats. One note, for some reason there are no froward cup holders on the port side. There is also no longer a table in the cockpit, but we've learned to live w/o.

Yesterday I was at the US Powerboat Show in Annapolis and saw a 240 totally stripped down. It didn't even have a bimini. If you can swing it I highly recommend the overnight package and camper canvas. The overnight package adds the refrigerator, microwave, shore power, AC/Heat, etc. We also have a GPS/Chartplotter that is connected into our SmartCraft to display all of our engine data.

The cabin is a bit tight, but it is what it is for the size of the boat. You can comfortably sleep 2-3 people. It's not a cabin you're going to spend all of your time in, but we did dinner with a small group and you can all comfortably sit around the table.

Has anyone installed a fishing rod rack in their 240 Sundancer for storage when not in use? The only logical place seems to be in the small bedroom wall / bulkhead, but due to the relatively narrow beam, is too short for longer rods. Any Ideas?

Does anyone know where the Smartcraft junctionbox is located on a 2004? My Tach has a LCD window and I assume it's hooked up to SC.

Hi all-

First post after lurking a while, TONS of great info in here - I think I'm narrowing in on a 2000/1ish 240DA for my first boat. Seems like there may be some thought that the 5.0L is a bit underpowered and I should look for one of the larger engines if possible. Question - does the B3 on a 5.0L work efficient enough to make that a significant boost over a B2? Or should I be looking for something w/a 5.7? Would you consider a 5.OL a dealbreaker knowing what you know now?

Thanks!

I have an 07' 240 with the 5.0 BIII (260 HP) and it gets up and goes...a little slow to start, but its not a "ski boat" :smt001 Anyway, relatively calm water the other day with my wife and two kids and it was running between 45-48...

All - I have a 2008 240 Sundancer with a unique problem. The stereo (Clarion CMD5) will gradually fade out - no power or function from the head unit or remote on the helm. After several days, it will magically come back on. Did this three times this season and of course the dealership is scratching their collective heads. And of course it is presently working, so they can't track the electrical issue. This sounds like a voltage problem to me, but not sure where. Maybe the panel - a bad switch maybe? The head unit was bench tested and came out fine. Anyone else have this experience?

Since this issue isn't likely specific to the 240DA you may want to post it in the electrical section and see if more members will see and respond to your post.

Best of luck

Can anybody tell about the depth finder that comes with the newer 240 DA's ?
I know it is integrated with the multi function tac.
Does it just have depth or can you set depth alarms etc.
Thanks

240DA Owners: This is my first year with a 2006 240DA with the 5.7 engine and Bravo III. I have not been able to achieve more than 41 MPH in near perfect conditions (calm, no passengers, very limited gear, 1/2 tank of gas, 1/2 tank water) and wondering if I should be concerned. The engine runs great and jumps on plane. Bottom painted at beginning of season and relatively clean when pulled at end of season.

When performing the speed test, trim tabs are up and I trim the outdrive to position 5 on the digital (about 1/4 trim on the analog guage). I even took down the bimini to reduce drag, with no results over 41.5 MPH (using Garmin GPS to monitor speed). By the way, the props are factory, no modifications to anything and the boat has 120 hours.

I keep hearing my boat should hit the higher 40's with the 5.7 engine. My questions are:

- Should I be concerned?
- Should I have the marina check out anything specific while they winterize/store over the winter?
- Can you share your top speed with 5.0 or 5.7 so I have a reference point. Details appreciated.

I've got a 2006 240 Sundancer with 5.7 l (350 MAG MPI) and its Bravo III outdrive has a 2.2 gear ratio. The props are the standard 20 pitch, and standard diameters that it came with. It does not have bottom paint, it was pretty heavily loaded with options, and gear, water, full fuel tank, etc.

All that being said, I did a speed run, in 2 directions w/bimini top deployed, with only myself onboard, I measured about 43 MPH at about 5100-5200 RPM with a brief overspeed alarm. I have the exact numbers written somewhere if you're interested, but those are close. Speed was measured by GPS, but the dash speedometer was close to same reading. RPM was read from the digital tach - the dial tach always reads about 100 or so less.

I think my engine has enough power to carry the 2.0 ratio BIII, or perhaps carry 22 pitch props, because I boat close to sea level, but what I have is close enough and really yanks a wakeboarder right out of the water, and gets on plane quickly. Cruising fuel economy at about 30 MPH would probably be a little better with the 2.0 drive or 22 props however.

The 2006 SeaRay prop & drive chart says the 2.2. ratio was for high-altitude, so I think the std. 2.0 ratio would probably push my boat a little faster, because the motor was intermittently pushing a little RPM overspeed at wide open throttle.

I've been told bottom paint will take a couple of MPH off your top speed, so yours sounds OK to me. It would be interesting to hear what ratio BII & prop pitch you have. I noticed the 2007 prop charts now show 2.2 is standard for the BIII, and now 2.43 is for high altitude.

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensvie, but sturdy dinghy for my 240 Dancer. While we're essentially a small cruiser, we tend to be in water too deep for my "elderly" relatives or guests that can't hop off the stern into 4 feet of water.

I'd apprciate suggestions...
Ken
