Ok with all this lottery talk what "Yacht" would you buy and why. Rermember you have to be able to keep it so those 200 footers costing millions a year just don't make sense. What is your dream boat?

I am thinking a Hatteras M60.

Probably keep our boat. If we moved somewhere where we might be in salt water then maybe something a little bigger with inboards but happy with what we have. Probably buy a small plane. Been tinkering with getting my PPL and buying a small cheap plane just for personal travel. Other than that I would just pay off everything of ours and our kids and parents and give them some to invest and I would invest the rest. We would definitely donate a bunch to some animal shelters and a few charities. I'd be the guy paying off lay-aways at Wal Mart...lol

It would be too much work to take 15 years of stuff off the boat. Only thing we might do different is go faster and burn more gas but then I would need to fix things more often.

Riviera 72 Sports Motor Yacht. If I felt that was too big to be practical, they do make smaller versions.

If you think boating can be costly, wait till you try planes!!! My first career was in aviation, think 4 to 14 seat sized planes, my customers ranged from corporations to wealthy individuals, I sold the maintenance and parts, my God, the cost made boating look super cheap!!!

I'd keep the boat and buy a second place with Gulf access, a dock, and lift... When I bought my boat the seller didn't have a trailer, kept it on her dock and lift, she agreed to let the boat stay there for three months and I could use it while finding a trailer. It was SO NICE to just get in, go, come back and leave. Towing / ramp launching sucks...but it's better than not boating! Told her if she decides to sell the house to call me!!

I was once offered for the depreciated value a yacht made in Italy. Price was 100K. The boat had SS tanks for all thing. Hull was double mahogany. Engines were big. It had a crew section. Boat was 90 feet. Owner asked me one question. Can you afford 50K for maintenance plus crew and fuel. We got a 38 foot SeaRay for the same price. Owing is simple running is expensive.

I like mine. I would have a new engine / out drive put in, all new pumps, electrical components, canvas. Oh wait. Never mind, already did that. Let’s go with Hookers & Blow!

Yeah I have been researching and looking. Figuring something like a Cessna 182. Been researching costs/hour for flight time and the fixed costs. Problem is at 52 not sure I m not sure I want to spend that much. Also considered just renting a plane when I want to fly somewhere. Not feasible to go on a weekend jaunt when you are paying by the hour but nice short day trips would be nice. Will see how things go and make a decision later.

Boatman, I looked into joining an airplane club when I lived in Ohio. They had 6 planes, you could use / rent as a member. OMFG! I have owned boats, planes, horses, cheapest is boats! By far. See previous statement and you’ll know why I still working at 68. Spent it all on planes, horses, boats, hookers, and blow, the rest I pissed away!

You could try this option, Warren Buffett liked it so much he bought the company! NetJets

A fellow member in our yacht club had a 65' Son Ship http://sonshipyachts.com/ and sold it for a 85' same builder... He told me that the 85' was easier to dock than the smaller one. It's just him and his wife.

lol. Yeah I 172 is about $175/hour to rent but that includes fuel. Not something I would be looking to rent for a whole weekend...lol. If I go through with it I'd probably rent a few times then buy one but it would be something under $100,000. You can find a decent 172 for about $50,000. The real cost comes from ramp/hangar fees, annual, fuel, etc
