460 DA Owners Thread

According to the 2001 parts book, the standard props where 23X27. No 23X26 is listed for the Cummins engine in 2001.
You are correct, the "archive parts" lists the props as 23 X 27, but our boats were not delivered from the factory that way. My 2002 and probably Joint Custody's 2001 both came with 23 X 26 H cup Hi Torq 4 blade Nibral props originally. Similar 460 models of that vintage had the same, at least the few I've checked. I will consult my original parts list sometime and see if it agrees with the archive list but I'm curious, was your 2001 boat originally propped at 23 X 27? Is it still?
You probably are aware of this but our 460 with Cummins 6CTA was over-propped from the factory, if you follow Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine.

Anchor Update:

For those interested I have been on a year-long search for a new anchor. The plow type that was factory on our boats just won’t hold well without significant oversizing in our muddy bottom of Galveston bay. I really wanted a Rocha or Mantis but with the roller they will not fit the bowsprit (I tried). I knew I need a scoop type anchor to hold well around here so that left a Vulcan or ultra. I just couldn’t find anyone with the Vulcan who could conform it would work and the reviews were just average at best. Ended up buying an ultra 60lb, ultra swivel (only because it rights the anchor as it comes up and yes I tried it without this to no avail). I replaced the chain with 150ft acco 5/16” g4 galvanized and spliced 125ft of 9/16” megabraid for a total of 275ft. I also had a thimble spliced in the end of the rode and attached that to the u bolt in the anchor locker.

Lastly I painted the chain at 30,60,90, 120ft then had rode markers spliced in at 150,180,210,240. At 260 I painted 6ft of the rode with red spray paint as a last chance reminder of sorts. In addition I had a bridle made of 1/2” 3 strand with each leg 16ft long with eye splices and the ultra chain hook.

The progress 1 windless was cleaned and lubed and works like a dream. I haven’t had the chance to anchor out but I will in the next couple weeks and report back. I can say the anchor sure sprays off much easier being all stainless when returning from the muck.

I learned a few things from this experience... 1. Turn the boat bow toward the dock. 2. The anchor locker needs attention. I cleaned it, replaced all the hoses, clamps, and changed the thru hull drains to stainless. 3. It’s much easier to take the rode home and set it up there then mess with it on the dock, I used a rubbermade tote to move mine around (don’t drag the chain on concrete). 4. It will not work with a standard shackle, the anchor is too wide for a 3/8” shackle and that is as large as the 5/16” chain will hold. 5. The anchor rollers are no longer available and must be custom turned out of Delrin. I used mermaid marine in Virginia. One of the 3 rollers will have to be changed at the next haul out because it’s impossible to reach the bolts. 6. A chain stop cannot be properly fitted with this anchor and bow roller because the anchor sticks up when in the roller so a bridle must be used.

Hope this helps someone.

How much anchoring do you do and what has your experience with the ultra 60 been? Does it hold and hold well? I'm asking because I just recently upgraded from the stock anchor to a Delta 55lb "fast set" and while it sort of holds, we had an experience this past weekend that scared the hell out of me. Sand/mud bottom and drug anchor about 90 foot, alarm went off, 3am in the morning! Not a good scenario and I need something that can hold. My previous boat had a bruce anchor and I never ever had issues like this. Once set, it was SET.

Thoughts?

thanks,
Tim

The 60 Ultra is a great anchor. Fit the bow of the 460 perfectly and held exceptionally well in sand and mud. Looks great as well.

I had a heart stopper on Sunday at the beginning of a cruise when the oil pressure in the port engine dropped to zero. We stopped and I took a look a the analogue gauge on the engine showing we had oil pressure, but I'm not trusting enough to ignore the smartcraft readout the next time I'm tempted to hit the open water. So any suggestions on how to determine the cause (and simple fix) before the boat gets put away for the winter? I'm thinking sending unit, but...

Hi everyone. There is rubber molding that inserts around the windshield and mine is missing some of it. Does anyone here know the right size for it and how much I'll need for the whole windshield? Thank you!

Although I was unable to find the part number in the 2004 Sea Ray parts manual, I can tell you what is used on my 1999.
From Taylor Made:
I show the screw cover used funder the center vent window was 8349030 (5ft) and it is $3.70 a ft. and for the sides and curved glass part # 8349040 used 31ft @$4.60 a ft.

The prices are 3 years old, but hopefully that gets you a start. This is who I worked with at Taylor Made, hopefully she is still there as she was a tremendous help.

Good luck

Thank you very much! I have reached out to Terra...... truly appreciate the help.

I'm preparing to replace zincs. I noticed that there is one zinc plate on the aft part of the boat. Does anyone know what replacement is needed? Like a part #? Also, do you know if zincs go on prop shafts? Any other zincs I should be looking to replace (engine?)

On my 99 model year I have the following underwater zincs:
B12 NAVALLOY Hull Plate-406 Plate
R3750A R3 RUDDER & TRIM TAB NAVALLOY ANODE

Yours may be different, but this is a good starting point. Also, if you don't have it already, here is the link to the Sea Ray site and the parts manual download. https://www.searay.com/us/en/owners.html
The Sea Ray part number for the large zinc is 398222.

Hope that helps!

I also have 2 on each shaft

Roger , thanks and I did notice that the Searay part is 398222 but that doesn't translate to anything else I've found. Boat is still in the water and I plan to leave it there till next spring. Once next spring rolls around, I will be replacing all the zincs so I'm getting my parts together now and also plan on sanding/repainting bottom.

That is the anchor I have on my 99...it works great and fits the anchor roller perfectly. I have the Stainless steel version and it looks GOOD on the bow. :)

Hi Guys. I have this anchor on my boat. Upon being anchor last weekend, I thought for sure we wouldn't end up drifting but we did.... to the tune of more than 100 ft (my gps alarm). Part of the issue is when we sway side to side, it appears that jars the anchor loose. I actually upgraded from the factory to this one to prevent that. I am writing because I was wondering if either of you experienced the same issue? I could always put out a small rear anchor to help prevent some of the sway but then I won't be pivoting like all the other boats in/around me. Thoughts? BTW, the ground I'm anchoring in is sand/mud and a little creek off of Chesapeake bay.

So lots of factors here... how deep were you? Chain? Scope? Wind?

Anyone know average cost for 6cta 8.3 Cummins 1000 hr service?

Not sure if mine was a 23X27. It is a 23X26 now. If I call Searay with the HIN, can they tell me what it was shipped with? Actually, i'll be in Kissimmee, Fl this coming weekend and might just run over to see them in person.

Plate is easy to find in West Marine. More a matter of distance between the studs/holes than size. What's harder to find at WM are aluminum "zincs" for use in the bay. And no, no anodes on the shafts.
