My oldest daughter is coming to go boating

Sounds like fun but I don't know about the whole week thing. I have twin 3 y/o grandsons and evertime they come over here they always want to go on the boat. Even when it's just on the trailer in the yard. They put on their life jackets and have a ball, it's great. If an entire week would be...

    hatch fan anyone?

Since it takes 8 D cells and is 12 VDC it could be wired up to run off the boat's electrical system.

    77 Merc 165 wont crank

The fact that the other engine didn't have any problems is what also makes me think that it all had to with the belt coming off. Like I said if it was hydro-locked there would have been water in the oil pan and if that would've happened more than likely you would've had a lot of water in the...

    77 Merc 165 wont crank

I've never heard of acetone and ATF, don't think acetone in an engine is a good idea. I have heard kerosene and ATF though. Try soaking the cylinders first for a few days with this then see if it turn over. If you get it freed up and can then get it started change the fluids, run it long enough...

    cabin bilge

Dumb question but did you pour water down there for the pump to pump out?

    Question about step down pump

There is a little pocket down there that the pump sits in. On mine it's just in case you happen to get water in the cabin. If you have a shower it might serve an additional purpose. On mine it goes out a thru hull on the stbd side just aft of the thru hull fitting for the sink. It's a good...

    77 Merc 165 wont crank

Did you try cranking it over by hand with a socket on the crank bolt or just with the starter? Before doing anything else try to turn it over by hand. If it turns over by hand then the problem is probably the starter relay or the starter. In this case try jumping the starter relay first, if that...

    Question about step down pump

In the cabin under a little panel just forward of the aft cabin. I had to remove 2 screws and one little piece of wood that holds up the little cushion in the front and the panel came right out. I just replaced mine yesterday. Very easy job.

Got impeller and exh manifold replaced. Thanks.

Started the engine up on the muffs yesterday for the first time in over a month. I replaced the impeller and the port exhaust manifold. Had a couple questions on both(and some other unrelated items) and you guys fielded them quickly and helped me out. Put it all back together without any...

What fluids to use for trim pump and prim tabs?

What fluids to use for trim pump and trim tabs? I don't know if the fluids have ever been changed(or if it's even necessary) in the trim pump resevoir(Merc OD) or the res for the trim tabs(Bennet). I checked the manual for trim tabs and it doesn't say anywhere in it. A guy at the local marine...

can I use acetone on gelcoat?

I just did all my teak and after pulling off all the blue masking tape I have quite a bit of tape residue and some teak guard drips. Is it ok to use acetone to remove it or should I use something else. I used acetone on a small spot for a test and it worked(but not too well) and getting enough...

    Question about polishing

A lot of good advice. The polish(49) does say for use with buffer or by hand but after reading your replies and some other searching I'll get a much better shine on it with the rotary before I try the polish again. Then I'll use the orbital.

    Question about polishing

May seem like a no brainer but I need some clarification on polishing. The fiberglass probably hadn't been waxed or tended to in well over 5 years that I know of, pretty oxidized. Did the oxidation remover no problem(wet sanded a few stains with 2000 grit) already looked way better. I'm using...
