there are plastic caps that cover the stainless steel bases when not in use.
the speaker wires stay plugged into the boxes at all times because I lay them on the shelves in the interior for use when they're not on the poles.
I couldn't hear the music well enough while swimming behind the boat and didn't want to cut large holes in the transom for rear facing speakers like the new boats have. Here is what I came up with...

I owned a 10' Newport for 1 summer. I used a 6hp Mariner on it, 9.9 was max hp. I bought it used 2-3 yrs old from someone who stored it indoors and used it infrequently. I felt the quality of it was "just ok". The seat belt strap material that holds up the bench seats became weak and ripped...
