Why did you buy a Sea Ray and what other boats did you consider?

Hi guys, I notice this thread of mine has been bumped. I ended up buying a Crownline, after looking at Sea Ray, Four Winns, Rae Line, Bayliner and Monterey. My shortlist was a Crownline and a Four Winns. The Sea Ray was never really given a chance to me by the dealer. I'm not sure whether he...

    185 without swim platform

Thanks mate - the leg can stick into a space at the back of the garage but the swim platform can't - it's too wide. Hence the reason for needing to remove the platform. JB

Why did you buy a Sea Ray and what other boats did you consider?

Nope. Not any boat. There are a number of boats that will fit in my garage. I don't really have any choice but to store the boat in the garage so if it doesn't fit I can't have it. So far - Will fit with no modification to the boat - - Four Winns H180LE - Crownline 185 - SeaRay 175 - Rae...

Why did you buy a Sea Ray and what other boats did you consider?

Ha ha well spotted! The FW H180 is about AU$38000. The SR175 is about AU$34000, but its a smaller boat, with not such a good spec. Then there's the H180LE which is the H180 with a heap of stuff stripped out and a lower price. Then there's the SR185, which may just be too long for my garage...

    185 without swim platform

It is a 2-car garage, however negotiating with my wife for just one of the parking spaces was hard enough!!! But great idea.... I've taken on board everything about the swim platform people have said, I guess it is a option to store the boat outside, however I think boats are better kept...

    Winter Down Under

Mate, my sentiments exactly. We'll probably head to Mt Buffalo as I have a pair of 5-year olds and they just love the tubing and tobogganing. AND as soon as I decide which sodding boat I want to buy we'll get some time on the bay and the Yarra too. JB

Why did you buy a Sea Ray and what other boats did you consider?

Hi We're looking at buying our first trailer boat, we've decided on a stern drive bowrider about 5.5m long. We've looked at - - Bayliner - Four Winns - Sea Ray - Monterey - Rae Line We were just interested in what led people to buy a Sea Ray and whether they considered other boats? Thanks...

    185 without swim platform

Hi Mark Very good to hear from another Melburnian. Where abouts are you? We're in Mordialloc, with a boat ramp at the end of our street, so there's no excuse! Yes, this is our first trailer boat of it's type - we've had 3 other boats that have stayed on moorings. We like the bowrider /...

    185 without swim platform

It won't fit in my garage with the swim platform on! I have a check-out in the back of the garage for an engine but its not wide enough for the swim platform. :smt089 I would rather order it without it than deal with the holes left by removing it. JB

Hi Does anyone know whether it is possible to order the 185 Sport without the swim platform? Thanks JB

    Hello from Melbourne, Australia!

Wow! OK - I hadn't noticed that page before. "In 1998, through Peter’s ties in the US and New Zealand’s & Australia’s Sea Ray dealer Sports Marine, Rae Line was approached by boat building giant Sea Ray to manufacture two models of Sea Rays sport boat range, then known as the 180BR and...

    Hello from Melbourne, Australia!

Thanks guys - I've looked at the 180 as we have them here in Oz too - its longer than the 180 by a little bit. I'll ask the dealer this weekend and let you know! JB

    Hello from Melbourne, Australia!

Thanks! I had a look at the Sea Ray site and it's not a current model, but this New Zealand company definitely used to make Sea Ray, I'm reckoning its an old hull shape with a new fit out. I'm going to look at the boat on Saturday so will ask some questions then. JB

    Hello from Melbourne, Australia!

Hello everyone I've joined this forum because I'm looking at a boat which I think used to be made for Sea Ray under licence, and is still sold, rebadged, by a company called Rae-Line in New Zealand. It's called the Rae line E series 180, and I think it is essentially the same as a model Sea...
