i have a bravo three drive that i disconnected the pick up. i just use a thru hull w/ a strainer close to my water pump ( different than bravo 1) and i've boated over 900 miles in the last 2 summers and it works fine....but this is for a bravo 3 drive system.
Bravo water pump hooked to a shut off valve and thru hull fitting is the way to go. I have AC So I'l tap into this. alreay has a shut off. more to come.
