270DA What do I need for navigation and safety on Great Lakes

I upgraded to a Garmin 535S this spring and am overly pleased with it. I've wired it in to the fuel flow sensor and subscribed to Sirris weather. Sirris updates weather patterns every 5 minutes so charts are always up to date. Can zoom out to almost anywhere on Lake Michigan and get instant wind...

Anchor rode length for Great Lakes

I also use 200' with 20' of chain. We've stayed out on the hook off Boaters Beach a couple times and overnite the winds have picked up enough that a shorter rode would have left us to drift up on the beach. I set the anchor alarm to alert me if we drift outside of a 6 to 1 ratio. We're usually...

    Oil Pressure

I had a similar situation and changed the pressure sensor on the engine. Low and behold the pressure dropped to 45 psi at running speed and around 10 at idle. Test the pressure sender

    Hello all

We have a '89 230CC and love it. Of course we trailer it everywhere but it's still big enough to spend an extended weekend on and not need to get back to shore. Easy on the budget and on gas. Big enough to handle Lake Michigan with decent weather. Doesnt have all the amenities of home but our...

Do I need a new starter?

Sounds to me like the solenoid is sticking and not fully engaging the starter drive gear into the flywheel. Starter may be ok but a new solenoid is probably in order. BJ

    battery wiring

I have the similar 3 battery setup on my '89 230CC. Position #1 is the starting battery and position #2 is the pair of deep cycle house batteries hooked up in parellel. My question?...with the switch in position 'both', does the alternator charge all 3 batteries effectively or do I need to...

Alpha One Bellows - How Much

I was apprehensive of doing it myself but there was so much information available for the DIY'ers I gave it a try. I will admit I spent about $250 on tools for the job (alignment tool, bellows expander, shift cable socket, hinge pin tool, etc) but the actual component parts were pretty...

    230 CC Thread

Re: 230 CC Tread Got a '89 230CC. Wife and I love it. Big enough for almost any water, small enough to trailer anywhere. Perfect for us! Bill

    In hull transducer location

I've got a 1989 Searay 230CC cuddy with the 5.7L Mercruiser sterndrive. I'm installing a Garmin 535s chartplotter/fishfinder with the in-hull transducer. I called Searay and asked if the hull was cored or solid and they told me they didn't know for sure. I see that the original equipment depth...

    Battery connected backwards

I didn't see any smoke or issueat the helm so I think the gauges are probably ok. I'll know more once I get an opportunity to start the engine. I'm hoping the primary wires are the worst ofthe problem. A new alternator wouldn't be the worst situation either....the one that is on it always seemed...

    Battery connected backwards

I took my 16 yo son with me this weekend to get our boat out of storage. He wanted to be helpful so I told him to get the battery connected so I could raise the outdrive for towing. I have a '89 SeaRay 230CC with the 5.7L engine and a Alpha One leg. It never occured to me I needed to explain neg...

    Replacement winch strap

The wife and I just completed the Coast Guard Boating safety course and interestingly, within the section on trailering, there was a statement indicating any boat in excess of 16' required a cable instead of a strap. We intend to have or boat inspected the next time they offer them and it should...

    Hello from Lake Wawasee

Welcome Ed & Yvette, We spend lots of weekends up on Wawasee. Ours is also trailerable and we've taken it to Lake Michigan often for extended weekends. Maybe we can drop anchor together some afternoon on Wawasee and discuss it all. Summer is Coming!! Bill & Becky

    Thru hull transducer

I have a new Garmin 535S chartplotter for which I want to install a thru hull tranducer. Does anybody know what the hull deadrise is for a 1989 230 CC? The boat is in storage and unacessable for another 30 days but I'd like to have everything on hand when it becomes available. Thanks
