I have the exact same problem as Iprof, forward stanchion lost the seal. I have a soft spot as well, although smaller. I have been debating what to do, if anything, for some time now. This winter I am resealing all deck hardware, stanchions, hatches, horn and cleats with epoxy.
I believe all the Weekenders of that vintage came with cable steering. I know mine is a cable and steers very easily. IMO I don't see the need for power steering on one of these vessels.
I stand corrected, I guess the option was available.
We have used Dreamscape Transport Inc.. The owner is Nels Johnson, very nice person and great rates. I would highly recommend you call him for a rate quote. His phone number is 262-308-3650.
We live in Waukesha, so the drive to Port Washington is about equal to the drive to Winthrop Harbor. There is a Skipper Bud's here in Pewaukee, but once again, no access to the boat while in storage.
Dafish, The rate is $6.00 per square ft., much cheaper than the going rate of $8.00 in the Milwaukee area. Almost all storage facilities will allow no access to the boat while in storage. At Maritime you can do anything with exception of sanding off bottom paint for obvious reasons...
Mike, We will be in the East building, backing in the tall center door from the North. We did mention you sent us, so you should get a discount for that?
Thanks for the suggestion, DaFish. We signed the contract and paid for the winter season at Maritime. Super nice people to deal with and beautiful, heated, well lit storage buildings. They even gave me a lesson on how to use the huge pressure washer there! Needless to say we were sold! Escapade...
We just found out our winter storage spot is no longer available. Does anyone have any suggestions for indoor storage for a 30ft Sea Ray on a trailer? We have found a few buildings available but we would have no access to the boat until 5/1/14. Being able to do some minor repairs is top...
We paid $4.34 at McKinley Marina in Milwaukee last Sunday. This was the same price as of 5/5/13 when the fuel dock opened for the season. Car gas on land is at around $3.39. McKinley gas is also 10% ethanol, just like the car gas. I have been adding Valvetech. Next fill I plan on calling around...
We always turn everything off except the battery charger. Water heater gets us hot water very quickly when we board. I always close all seacocks as well.
