40 sedan bridge forum

I am just curious as to whether anyone else has an issue with weeds being sucked into the engine intakes? We are in a deep and clean inland lake, but occasionally have small pockets of weeds at surface level from anchors, etc. None of our previous boats (31 DA, 35 DA, 38 DA) have had an issue, but this one seems to attract the weeds to the intakes and severely limit water flow.

The only solution I have found is to dive under the boat and remove the weeds by hand. Does anybody else have a better method for either prevention or removal?

Same problem. Had to dive to remove the wad just yesterday.
I was successful once by forcing water with a hose through the thru hull after removing the strainer hose.
Been researching and found South Bay Strainers as a possible preventative fix.
Seems others have had success with this product.

These would be installed on top of the intake to prevent the weeds.

Others have removed the fins from the thru hull intake which is supposed to stop the weeds but instead collects them. The weeds would then get trapped in the strainer which is easy to clean as opposed to diving!!!

Looking for suggestions...for our open storage area in the forward bilge area. I'm referring to the space forward of the shower/sink sump box, and aft of the master floor hatch where most have their bow thruster installed. This is a firstly large space with not bad access. I was wondering what anybody was using this space for. I was thinking of rigging up something to securely hold my spare props for long journeys in their but maybe someone has found a better use? Please share your ideas, thanks!

What is a bow thruster? We have longterm kitchen and bath paper goods and supplies in there that we don't need to access regularly. Paper towels, napkins, tp, large boiling pot (since water never actually gets hot enough to boil in it). That way its near the galley and heads where it is eventually used. That whole area from the foot of the master salon bed to the salon Cruisair is very useful (obviously the shower sump takes up some of that space). I keep my 50' travel 30amp power cords and 50a-30a splitter in there just in front of the salon Cruisair. Since we are on storage, I can also say that one of the best mods I ever did was taking out the cockpit fridge (or ice maker for some of you) and replacing it with a door. I can now keep lots of outdoor and maintenance under the bridge stairs, such as Racor filters (in a closed box - since they stink), oil and secondary fuel filters, travel 50' garden hose, 2.5g shopvac, 5 gallon bucket, 2 canvas folding chairs (you know - the type soccer moms use), 17" Magma kettle grill. In the cockpit forward starboard compartment I keep all my engine fluids - 2 gallon container of engine oil, 1 gallon container of coolant mixed to 50-50 ready to pour, couple of quarts of 30W (transmission) and 40W (generator), quart of steering fluid and a small bucket. In the cockpit aft cockpit compartments I keep 4 spare dock lines, a container of Salt Eliminator and the Salt Eliminator mixing dispenser. Under the cockpit bench seat I keep as many life jackets as I could fit in there (there are a total of 15 on my boat). The rest of the lifejackets are in the storage under the bridge U-seeat. In the trunk I only keep a bucket and brush on a stick for cleaning the hull, and the throwable life ring. In the cockpit port compartment I keep small cleaning containers and such - boat wash, metal cleaner, deck cleaner, bilge cleaner, etc. I left out the salon bench seat and backrest. But to many miscellaneous stuff in there to list.

More that you asked for but maybe it gives someone some help.

How to remove TV cabinet in salon?

Thanks for your reply! I am going to look into the link you posted - it may be a good solution for us.

Just purchased a 1999 40 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge and was hoping someone could let me know where the antenna/cable switch is located

I found it by doing a Facebook search on "Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge" and finding it embedded in one of his posts way down the search results page. The actual Group never showed up in the search.

I'm in the process of buying a 2001 400DB, really excidet :)
I have a quick question, does anybody know where to put a washer and dryer combo in?

Getting ready to buy a 2001 400DB with gas engines (will use it on a lake) and my offer of 125K was excepted. See link http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2001-Sea-Ray-40-Sedan-Bridge-102510420

We are in the process of getting a survey done. This boat is in great condition and I would like to know what y'all think about the price and is there anything I should know before making this big step.

Congrats! If you are happy with the price, then it is a good price - that's all that matters. That boat looks very clean with some nice upgrades. Pretty cool bow cushions. Enjoy. Did they tell you the starboard salon sofa backrest lifts straight up to provide more storage?

yes, the owner showed me this space, it's BIG :smt038
She is in fantastic condition, u can eat of the engine compartment floor and she has a brand new 10KW Kohler gen set!
The only thing is gas engines. It has the 8.1 horizon engines in it and they push the boat pretty good but I was reading a bunch of commends about gas versus diesel and the gas engines didn't come out to good.....

You'll get every opinion on price, the only one that matters is yours. Looks like you found a nice clean boat, enjoy!!
