I thought it was significant to post that I recently bought diesel from Morrison's on Lake Union in Seattle for $2.50/gallon. Almost half of what it was last summer. Looking forward to an awesome 2015 boating season.

I hate you all!!!! :grin::grin::grin: ...here is 1.45 euro per liter.... = 6.50 US$ per gallon :smt013

What are the odds we will back up to $5/gal by Memorial Day? And I hope the consensus is slim to none, but I'll believe it when I see it. 2015 will be a stellar season, either way, but a lot less painful at such low rates.

I f you come to Canada you will pay more. BC has a carbon tax.

Our wonderful Democratic governor is trying to institute the same thing here. I think he figures we'll soon forget the high prices we paid last year and won't gripe about yet another tax from the boys known for "tax and spend."

I hope to get my boat back in the water before the prices go back up... Going to try and run to some farther places we've been avoiding due to pricing... Boston? Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard....

A couple of US Senators are beating your Gov to the punch. They are trying to institute a 12 cent fed tax increase. 6 cents in 2015. 6 cents in 2016 then raise the tax with the inflationary index. (There is no wording I can find of lowering the rate when the economy tanks.) WHY? Because there is no money for road maintenance. Really? My brother was a player in the transportation industry for decades. The highway fund was so flush, our highway system could have made the autobahn look like a dirt road for the next 100 years. There was billions upon billions of dollars in it. The money was sucked out for welfare. Remember that when those sycophant bastards try to tell you otherwise.

Our marina prices their fuel based on their mark-up % + the cost of the last fuel delivered which was sometime last fall. Prices were still at $4.50. So it works just the other way for us......nobody will use their boats until the commercial guys burn off what they have in their tanks and the Spring Break crowds show up.

I'll bet if the other's around have their prices set lower, you marina will be forced to follow suit, else they maybe sitting on some really old fuel.. Our marina had to do that last year.

+1. We haven't been to the Vineyard again, not only due to fuel, but there's so much between here and there that it hasn't been on the list. But, like you, there's a better chance we will go.

No they won't. The commercial slip contracts require that the charter boats and tour boat operators buy their fuel from the marina so they have about 50 boats over 50 ft with 1000-1200 gal tanks held captive.

I just filed last week and it is still $4.48 a gallon. Hurts when the pump is at $1.83.

Awesome price !!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Regular Unleaded is $2.69/ gallon at the marina here in the big easy.

I went to Costco Saturday and filled up on $1.63 / gallon :wow:

This is why I am reticent to stop trailering and wet slip during the season. I have read the leasing contracts from every potential marina we have considered...and they all prohibit portable fueling. I am not convinced that these current prices will carry over into the summer months; but in any event, if I bought 200 gallons of gas today, treated it and put it into storage...it would clearly pay dividends this summer if the prices returned to $4 at the street pump. I just wouldn't be able to take advatage of that $400 savings if I wasn't allowed to fuel the boat at the marina from 5 gallon cans. This is why oil speculators are billionaires. It is a guaranteed win for them. I wish I had the kind of capital it takes to buy several million barrels of oil at $48 each...you simply can't lose when you recognize it's just the swipe of a pen or a politicians speech that sends the prices back to $100 a barrel.

Talk to your broker and buy oil futures and hedge your summer cost.

Prohibitions against portable fueling is about a lot more than the price of fuel. More than likely the marina owner's insurance policy prevents him from allowing it for safety and environmental reasons. Both state and Federal environmental laws make you responsible for cleaning up and fuel you spill and the premium you pay for fuel on the water and the work involved in lugging can after can of gasoline down the dock, plus the liability exposure you open yourself to, makes the on-the-water premium worth the cost to me.

I saw a guy at the local Valero pull up in a rusted-out van last weekend. He proceeded to pull 5, 5-gallon orange Home Depot pails and place them by the pump. When he was done filling the pails, he put covers on each, and sped away.

He must have broken a law or 2. I couldn't help but think what could've happened if he we're in an accident.
