"We" have run off most of the big personalities here on CSR, (against my wishes) and now it's BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe this is what the perfect community will be like, when everyone has been beat down with political correctness!!! I know I'm scared to post up what I'm thinking most of the time anymore.
Are you "PC" members happy with how the club is going right now?

Carry on!

You gotta name the names...who are the big personalities that have left? What did I miss?

I am definitely not a "PC" member. I would love to hear what you and anyone else has to say. Hell, I don't even have a Sea Ray!

I do think the general direction of every forum I am a member of is following the same path. Straight down the same (s##t)-tube the rest of society is riding.

I do think this is hands down the best site for boats in our size though. Thats why I am here. Iboats forum if you are less than 23'. Yachtforum if you are over 57'.

This forum is filled with a ton of knowledge that is important to the "middle class" of boating. To drive people away for any reason but outright oppression is wrong.

To hell with PC and say how you feel.

Redskins, Redskins, Redskins (bite me FCC)

I've never been known to be PC and there are times on here when I probably step over the line. I must say that I like the way things are going now. Some of the people on here who you refer to as "big personalities" I would refer to as a general PITA who were often rude and inconsiderate to others who might have disagreed with them.

There's a way to state your differences with someone without being an AH about it. IMHO too many times those "big personalities" crossed the line and headed straight to being crude and rude.

I come to a place like CSR to learn and also to help others who are here looking for help. That doesn't need to entail being a jerk.

Just sayin'

I can't seem to open the pictures:grin:

I agree with ya on this level. Noone should have to put up with name calling, or jerks.

I'm speaking in general.......

Ok, I've re written my responce three or four times and have erased it because I don't want to piss everyone off. haha
It just seems to friendly here for me personally, I feel like I'm getting Bull%@$&ed.
I have actually been going over to THT and reading the cold mold fight thread, and there is passion over there!!! Alot to learn too.
Ah, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, nevermind! LOL

To the points you raised,

Some of us have been on the earth long enough that we don't feel the need to comment on every single thread. Like yesterday……I saw one of the dumbest comments I've witnessed on CSR in 5+ years, but I let it go figuring that you guys didn't need me to point it out and would quietly enjoy it along with me……….plus, I just didn't have time for a dust-up with the author.

Friendly isn't bad

Be careful of what to read on any forum. Consider the source….is the author another of those magazine reading experts whose tips de'jour is what was in last months mag, or does he know what he is talking about. You pretty much know on CSR, if you have been here a while.

You don't know what you are talking about. Sometimes I agree with you……Ha!

Not sure who you are talking about because several names come to mind. I do miss a few of them for sure. I agree this is probably one of the best sites for under ~50' boats. Kind of miss some of the bantering that went on over in the holding tank. That has pretty much dried up too in the last few years.

Frank, this is a great point. I have often wondered why CSR does not turn on the "Reputation" feature some other forums have. It is essentially a scale or score that is calculated by other readers offering some kind of endorsement of the quality of advice given. Sure, not a perfect system but better than nothing. Going by post count is not really a good indicator of quality of advice given. Someone could have thousands of posts where they were welcoming people here, BS'ing, or saying "nice boat". A newbie will not know people well enough to be able to tell the difference. I often see questionable advice given but like Frank said don't really have time for the back and forth or arguing the point.

Okay Ian, now we've got three guys in the ring; nya - nya - nya nya - nya to you too. We'll show them 240 owners eh? Oh, wait a minute,,,, I AM one.

I like this site just the way it is, and was in the past, and how it will most likely be in the future. It is what it is and I think it's the regulars who make it what it is. I do surf the other sites on occasion but I find them boring. Some of the repair advice leaves me scratching my head too. At least on this site, if and when a "know it all" windbag dispenses expert advice on a subject that he knows nothing about, people aren't afraid to say something about it, sometimes with very few words,,,,,,,, eh?

This site is one of the least contentious of the forums I frequent. Only my golf cart site could be considered friendlier - I assume because the stakes of a vehicle costing an avg of $3k are pretty low...

I lurk on THT, but I'm not inclined to join. Those b-stards get UGLY! I mention the "grumpy forum" time to time, but it's going downhill fast. The software is 12 years old and membership is declining. I was once banned for going after a troll on that forum, and ironically, that troll is one of the more sane contributors on THT!

As far as the big and now absent personalities here - I can think of two, and I wish there were still here, but I don't think of either of them as being "run off". I guess I'm a little in the dark.

ALSO; In 2011 I was welcomed to this site by people who I had no idea who they were. These same people answered some really stupid questions and helped me through quite a few repair and research issues just because we all share a common interest in boats. I've probably learned just as much from this site as I have from working on boats as a hobby all my life. It's one of the best sites around and the membership is made up of knowledgeable, helpful, and generally good and well meaning people. Okay Chris, shut up and go to work now, and Ian,,, go to bed, it's late where you are.

I’ve been circling this thread a while. I feel I am prepared to weigh in.....

I am new to the forum and new to the size of boat I have. I am NO expert, but have some small expereinces. I lurked for a while before joining this forum and learned so much about my boat, and the others I was looking at and it has been great! When I finally purchased my boat, I felt as though I could join.

I suppose I have said some foolish things in some of my posts, but weren’t intended to malicous or anything. I would like to think of it as youthful thinking! I am past the 1/2 century mark, but still feel like a 20 year old!

There are some here who are definately full of crap. I find them funny sometimes, but hey, who am I to judge? BUt when it comes to real issues, in particular to someones use/maintenance/piloting/saftey of thier boats, this forum shines! Really, it does. Sometimes the truth is hard to take, because of the way it perceived. A tone in the way a person writes, is just an extension of thier personality. But the truth is the truth, and it can’t be denied.

So for those who may get offended by this, I’m sorry, but these people are just saying what they know to be right, at least in thier eyes. We can all agree to disagree, but not hold grudges.

In the end, we are all just here to enjoy our passion on a computer. We like talking to others about our passion. We often look for advise about our boats, sometimes we want to talk crap, sometimes we just want to share. It all good.

THT is a curious forum, and I don’t feel the need to join. I doubt I could really join in the banter, so I just lurk once in a while. I’m putting it down, but it isn’t for me. I found my home, right here.

Matt

Well Im thinking about using my portable generator on my boat but I don't want to get it wet so I'll leave it in the cabin and run an exhaust hoseThur the portal, what do you think?

just kidding.lol

This is a great forum and I find it way more useful than THT. Still can't get someone to take some #))@*$)*@ pictures of a 310 Sundancer stainless center windshield part, but otherwise a great place. :)

I've learned pretty quickly who provides the sage advice and who is throwing lawn darts...that's just like being at the dock.

BTW - I do plan to pull my Kohler 5K gen set and just put an unregulated nuclear reactor in its place.

I agree Sporters78. I find that my portable genny when properly used in the cabin also works as a great heater.

Leave it to Mike to try to stir the pot!
