40 sedan bridge forum

Recently my "slightly" inebriated buddy ran into my screen and the screen itself fared well however the frame is bent to hell. It doesn't seem to lift out and wondering if anyone can tell me if I need to remove the stainless square bar inside the sill of the door?

We have the middle switch on the left bank of switches labeled "INDIRECT" appears to not do anything or the light is burnt out.

Can anyone tell me what this switch is supposed to control?

Had infinity vinyl flooring installed in the bridge and cockpit this weekend. So far very happy with the product which absorbs no water...rained hard this morning and within 15 mins after it stopped the cockpit was dry.

Thought I would share my initial impression and a few pics in the event anyone is looking to replace the carpet.

So I bought some NOS bridge canvas pieces off ebay. They were listed as sides but turns out they are two front pieces for the 2 seat bridge. They are brand new Toast color with strataglass. Anyone interested in them send me a PM or email to keiththecop@aol.com. They were $140 plus shipping. To be safe call it $200 even. They come in a big cylindrical tube and are wrapped nice for safety. Here is the link to the auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161414083869?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

How much was it? We checked plasteak but would have been about. $8k for what you had done.

Has the pole arrived yet? Shipped it last Monday.

I have a very similar situation and am also curious about the best way to remove / repair / rebuild the screen door.

Hey Bill,

It was $2800 and that included having Sunbrella binding done around the edges. Being in Canada means we pay duty and exchange on the dollar so should be even less in the US. Now that I have seen it installed I am going to do all the stairs leading to the bridge as well. I have enough material but will pay a bit more to bind the pieces.

There are many colour choices including a teak look which a couple Sundancers in our harbour installed which looks good also. Here is the website for the manufacturer. http://infinityfabricsllc.com

The pole has not arrived just yet but it was very kind of you to send it up to me! Thank you very much! I will be sure to let you know when it does come and please send me a private message with your address so I can send you something in return to say thanks properly!

I loosened all 4 screws on the screen itself which gave maximum play on the rollers/wheels and it still would not lift out easily, but because the one side of the frame was already bent I was able to twist it enough and on a bit of an angle and force it out without doing further damage to it.

Not that it's out I really like how clean it looks and I considering a product like the phantom or clear view screens. I got a quote from clearview for about $850 installed which is a bit steep but it would totally disappear behind the curtain when not in use.

Has anyone else put a phantom screen? Would love to know how it worked out.

My wife wants a teak cutting board to replace the plastic one that sits over the sink. Does anyone have any ideas where to start?

FREE TO A GOOD...BOAT

Just finished replacing the Clarion speakers with JL Audio speakers and very happy with the new sound. While the Clarion speakers were pretty worn out, the speaker grille covers are in near perfect condition. I can't bring myself to throw them out without offering them, free of charge, to anyone who might need them.

PM me if you can use them. There are (4) 6.5" Speaker covers and (1) 10" Subwoofer cover.

I finished stopping the rain water leaks into the engine room from the butt ends of the upper rub rail. I removed the SS insert and rub rail screws far enough toward the bow to pull the rub rail end away from the hull. On the port side I found an unused screw hole with a dime sized chunk of gelcoat chipped off. I also found the top 1/4 inch of the hulls vertical seam was not sealed. On the starboard side I found two unused screw holes where water could freely run in. Again, with top, bottom and end of the rub rail all caulked up any water just dammed up there at the butt end and ran in through those holes, since the butt end is the lowest point of the entire run of the rubrail.

I plugged all the holes and gaps and left the lower edge of the butt end of the rubrail un-caulked and the end of the SS insert uncaulked. This is to have a drain for any water that works into the rub rail anywhere along its path.

Here is a picture of the crap that built up from the dam effect.

Great. Took forever. Hope it was the size you were expecting.

No charge. Shipping costs were small. Most of us around here just send these small things on our own nickel figuring it all evens out in the end.

Well really appreciate it. I am sure it took longer to get through customs and security when they x-rayed and saw the shape inside the box :)

Question for all of you. My boat came with the factory install of the Isotherm Cruise-49 refrigerator in the cockpit. Although it still worked I had to toss it a few days ago due to much of it rusting away after 14 years in a salt environment. We found it to be convenient at times, but for the most part we didn't use it a whole lot. I noticed there is cavernous storage space in there. We are not sure whether to replace it or build a door and a storage system behind it, or even go with an ice maker. What would your preference be for your boat?

I had an ice maker there. It leaked and cause damage to the wood beneath it. I didn't need an ice maker so I had a starboard door made and put down marine plywood in the space and use it for storage. I store my wash bucket, chairs, grill and other stuff in there. It's very handy.

That's what we were thinking. Do you have a picture of the door?
