LI Rendezvous - 2012

They are touchy when it comes to navy vessels, subs especially. The Navy and CG escorts have 50 cals mounted on the forward decks and they are locked and loaded. I will say that I have heard and spoken to sub commanders transiting in and out of the Thames River and they seem particularly chatty and friendly unlike my experience with other official vessels escorting them. And you do not want to get stuck behind one in the river, it's a long wait.

.... Are you still here in the area? (Mystic)

No, were scheduled to stay for one night only. We left Mystic on Saturday and went to WH for one night. As of today we're back to "reality". The vacation is officially over.

I'd rather be stuck behind it vs. in front of it......LOL

Staturday when we left Newport (solid 4-6 ft seas!:smt101), we were just aproaching Pt Judith when my Port engine temp I saw was climbing and approaching 200 degrees, not a good time to deal with this!:smt089 I shut the motor down and traveled about 2 miles (@ 5kts in 4-6fters !!) to get inside the breakwater of Pt Judith to try and trouble shoot the overheating issue. Just as we get inside to an area that is reasonably calm, I start relocating all our wet lines and fenders that were on deck (it was raining when we pulled out) so I can open the hatch, as soon as I jump down into the bilge my Wife is telling me the Coast Gaurd is here! They pulled up and I got a close up of there 50cal! They asked if we were OK, I explained our situation and that I was going to look into our problem and if I can't fix it quickly that we would look for a marina in Pt Judith to pull into. Then they asked if I would mind if they boarded our boat to do an inspection (WTF!)... Great like I don't have anything else to deal with right now!!! One of them asked if I have a current weather report and if I knew there was a strong storm on it's way, I told him I was traking it on radar and my intention was to head West and out run it, as it was comming up from the South West heading North East, this was not enough for them to abort there inspection. They spent about 10 minutes on board, did there thing and then finally left (we did pass with flying colors!). Upon them leaving I was able to return to my inspection of my Port engine (sea strainer, expension tank, belt, and hoses), everything looked good so I started the motor, checked for water flow, and it was pumping just fine. I then raised the idle RPM's up to 1500 for 3 minutes and the temp was rock solid @170.... We took off heading back to Long Island Sound and the engine temp stayed solid the whole way!:smt038 The only thing I can figure is maybe we picked up a plastic bag or a cluster of seaweed over the intake and it cleared when we shut it down???

He definitely does, it's an Alex invasion- let's hope it's not a hostile takeover and the rest of those NJ guys dont get the same idea

It is definitely an "Alex Invasion". Looks where Mr. Celebrity showed up:

Rick, where did you get that photo? Wasn't it suppose to be held quiet until the official publication? I just saw your post in the LLM thread, did the publication come out already? I didn't get it yet.

Greg, so you're still doing camping next year instead of rendezvous?

Rick,

I don't mind if you rip out pages 7 - 9, but make sure to keep page 71 pristine. (I'd frame it).
