Well I could use one of these at our marina, but the trouble is people think slowing down mean 8 knots with their box high in the air plowing a 3 foot wake behind them. No wake means no wake regardless of the speed you are doing.

that should be an auto-deploying burgee for cocktail cove ...lol

I don't think you'd get the response you want with that sign. I would buy the shoe, though.

On a side note, some fairly good friends of ours arrived at the beach the other day in their 40DA on a fast plane, then a squat. None of us helped them with their anchors like we normally do (they really rocked our worlds). Later, we walked down by them on the way to another group down the beach. I greeted them, shook hands, smiled, hugged the lady, and said, "We didn't recognize you coming in earlier. If we had, we wouldn't have cussed you out for sending all of that wake our way."

Everyone laughed. As we walked on, my wife complimented me (write that down) on the way I handled the situation. I let them know they screwed up, but was very nice and forgiving. They probably won't make an arrival show like that again.

Ok...so since we're on the subject of no wakes...
What is everyone's opinion on a boat anchored in a channel. Just sitting there...fishing...in the middle of a heavily traveled channel. So, what do YOU do as the boat on plane with another boat headed toward you and the fishing dude between the two of you?

Looks like the start of a nice fight on the 4th of July weekend.. when all the non-boaters are out and left their respect at home.

Fire a torpedo at them?

I pull the throttles back and idle past the fisherman all the while I am calling him all sorts of ugly names (under my breath) and thinking what an idiot he is for fishing in the middle of a very busy channel...there, I said it!!! But as with everything, I believe in Karma....

I observe safety. If safety is no issue, he may decide not to anchor there next time. If it's a really small John boat, or with old people, or kids, I slow all the way back, idle toward them, and let out a good long signal on my air horn. Dang, my air horn is really, really powerful. It's the most powerful one I've ever heard on a private boat. I think people like it. It always evokes a response. Then, we are both safe, and friends too (hehehehehehehehehehe).

On the issue of safety and channel fishing. Jon boat off to the starboard of the channel fishing, another cruiser off my port bow, jet ski off the starboard bow, me on plane. I know the cruiser and I will pass safely, but the jet ski and Jon boat.... I wasn't sure just what to do. I ended coming off plane and down to slow idle to be safe, but what would have been the right thing to do? I wasn't going to swamp the Jon boat but to fish there! and that jet ski? Gurr!

I am not fond of jet skis at all. Had to have "talk" with some kid wanting to jump my wake while I was pulling my daughter on a tube. The " talk" did not go well for his jaw. And his friends did not like what he had done, so they took " care" of the rest of the issue for me.

The signs our marina uses are head way speed only and no wake still get the occasional yahoo anyway

Tough call, I suppose. I boat in the 1000 Islands and you share the water with canoes right up to Great Lakes freighters, and also offshore boats blasting through at more than 170mph. Anybody on the water knows this fact, and they also know that the GBL and Rockport tour boats throw a hefty bow and stern wake. Combined with other slop, wind and the currents, it gets downright choppy! If you have seen under the T.I. Bridge on the Canadian side on a Saturday afternoon, then you know what I mean.

All that aside.....Seeing as I am responsible for any and all actions caused by my operation of the boat, i would have to think that safety is the only consideration. As stupid as it is to anchor in a channel, it doesn't deserve anything more than a warning or talking to.
I couldn't face myself in the mirror if a catastrophe were to occur because of me.
