This is for the V Drivers out their!

Would you captains share your cruising and top speed with me?

I've noticed a vibration on the port side of my 2001 310 350 Mag Horizons and V Drives. I purchased the boat last fall and noticed it very slightly when moving the boat from Virginia to Maryland. The Captain that assisted me with the move played with the throttles until it virtually disappeared. The vibrations seems more pronounced now that the boat has 60 additional hours on it this season. It seems to be on the port side and gets worse then better depending on the RPMs. I am wondering if it could be a damaged/bent prop due to the fact that it seems to get worse then better (like a tire out of balance on a car)

I don't believe I have hit anything, nor do I remember hitting the sandy bottom of the bay. I have complete service records on the boat. There was a note from 2009 stating the marine mechanic felt a slight vibration during a service. The surveyor I used did not mention it during the sea trial at all. From his extensive right up on the boat I believe he would have noted it if he had felt anything. The boat recently (May 2010) had a full tune up on both engines, impellors serviced, and all fluids changed. Both engines have a steady idle and run well under load.

I have about a month before it gets pulled out for the winter. Any suggestions on things to check?

:smt024A few months back a hit a piece of wood / tree stump which my wife saw as it came out the back. I wouldn't have known, what had blent the prop if she wouldn't have seen it. The boat began to vibrate more as I powered up. Coming into the bay the vibration was very little almost un noticable. While inspecting the prop I found that only one of the blades had been bent slightly causing the vibration. You could have hit sometime while underway. Most of the time it's a bent prop unless you are hearing sometype of noise coming from the engine compartment.
Note! If you are going to remove the prop use the required removing tool (the local shops something loan them out) be sure to leave the secondary nut in place at the end of the shaft for safety. The prop comes back quickly hitting hard back as it is coming off the shaft. The nut will prevent it from coming all the way out and hitting you or someone around you. Hope you find the problem.

I ask again...

Cruising speed around 21-23 knots at 3400-3500 rpms. This is with the 350 Mags, v-drives. Not sure about top speed. Have only done it a couple times.

Has anyone tried to run wire from the top of the arch to under the helm? Trying to install satellite antenna, but not sure how to snake it down and then across to the helm. ??

I believe you need to remove the SB side cup holder/ storage bin that's next to the captains chair. You should be able to get front the top of the arch to the opening I just mentioned and from there to behind the fuse panel if the helm.

jackson; to bad we are so far apart.

gerry and i removed a track vision from the arch on our 310 when we got it.

i did leave all wire and cable in the boat as it was installed though :smt001

I am still looking to find a place for my strut ... any help would appreciated.

Winterizing for 1st time
I have a 2000 310 DA w/t300 hp inboards - no genset. The marina is winterizing the engines... I want to try to save some cash and do the rest myself.
So here's my plan... I'd welcome input and feedback.
Before haul
------------------
Top off gas tanks
Pump waste holding tank-fill 1/2 way with water for rinse - pump again

After haul
-------------------------
Scrub bilge with dawn and rinse
Drain freshwater tank by opening faucets.Bypass HW Heater. Fill with ? Gals of pink antifreeze and run faucets until pink runs out of every faucet (galley, entertainment center, transom shower, head sink)
Winterize head?
Winterize AC by running pink antifreeze from overboard drain until it comes our thru hull
Drain HW Heater
Wasn't planning on removing batteries
What I miss?

Good luck..i would try it also my self but not that sure i wont miss something, and if i did it would be very bad

My winter rate with storage and winterizing is $2000 including shrink wrap, no genset

I am just about done my first season of winterizing. This weekend I will complete the cooling system for the engines. I have 350 Mag Horizons with V Drives and fresh water cooling. A couple quick questions:

Do I need to run the boat up to operating temperature before putting antifreeze into the fresh water side?
Is there anything I need to manually drain before putting in the antifreeze?
Should I drain the mufflers before adding antifreeze?
I was going to use a 5 gallon bucket connected to the 1 1/4" hose connected to the sea strainer. Anybody have experience with that method?

Quick question. Can you remove the distributer cap off the 300 2006 MPI's does it have a rotor? I was told that this is a closed unit. I was able to clean out my 1996 350 cap and rotor and wanted to know if I can do the same with these engines.

Hello Everyone,

New here and considering a purchase of a 1998-2000 310. I am leaning towards a Bravo III model. Mostly because of familiarity and efficiency. I have been reading about the water ingestion issues. Are the Bravo III models affected by the water ingestion issue? if so is there a fix for it like there is on the inboards?

Thanks!

An I/O (Bravo 3) is immune to the water ingestion issue as the water intake and exhaust is via the Stern Drive. Only the inboards can get suffer from water ingestion. That said I have the T-300HP Inboards and love them. Great close quarter manuvering abilities, though you lose on top speed.
My 2000 310 DA was retrofit with a new exhaust design to help prevent ingestion.

We LOVE out '98 310. A VERY unique inside layout, with a door to the aft cabin area. Our 6 year old LOVES it. Has her own door to the head... the larger dinette is nice too. The inside does 'feel' a litle more crampt vs. other 310's - however, it works great for us..
