On the way back from Atlantic City we notice we could not Transmit! Got home and took apart the Northstar NS100 Handset and found that the Micro Switch on the PTT button had snapped off the pwb. Contacted Northstar and waiting for a reply, will take handset to local TV repair shop to see if he can replace the micro switch. Anybody have any suggestions if all else fails? Is there a newer and better unit that will fit the Northstar profile on the bulkhead hole that the speaker is mounted to?

What a conicidence, the very same thing happened to me last weekend. I ordered a new handset from West Marine - it's part number
"Navico NSHTB", and for a couple of hundred bucks I thought it would be cheaper and more efficient to replace it, rather than remove and replace everything with a new unit. I called a few places, and they said fixing the switch would not be a good option. Navico bought Northstar. I believe Brunswick bought Northstar, but them quickly sold it to Navico. I called Navico's tech support, and his diagnosis was "you need to order a new handheld". If you go the West Marine route, you need to call them, and ask for the special handling department. They were very helpful. In case you want to call Navico yourself, the number is 800 324-1354. Good luck, and let me know how you make out. By the way, I also ordered a new mic clip, as mine broke apart at the helm. It is part #
NSVHFMH.

Thanks Art, I ordered a whole unit from Lake Powell Marine Electronics for under $300. with shipping! Lets hope they have it in stock. I called Navico earlier and support said they were waiting for units and just the Handset would be $288.+ shipping! @##@!@^% I'm sure I can eventually unload the rest of the parts!!!

Art, do yourself a favor get some Velcro or that Easy Pass Tape and place it somewhere on the Dash where you won't "Hip Check" the Mike!

I broke the speaker portion of the radio a few years ago. I was checking a fuse under the dash and hip checked the plug that goes into the dash and broke the female end. I had to replace the entire base unit. I also had problems with bent pins when I was plugging in the handset. I had to use a little screwdriver to straighten them out. Now I am afraid to remove the handset. I leave it plugged in all year. I am not a big fan of the design. Too easy to break something. I bought a rechargeable hand held as a back up. :smt001

Did you guys check with Jim to see if he could get the part?

I reached out to Jim yesterday Dom thanks, he said he didn't! I'm still waiting for a reply from WWW.lakepowellmarineelectronics.com ! Got an order number and receipt by email but it's been 24 hours since I placed the order! I called their number 801-921-3341 and left a message. If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'll assume their out of business!

Just got a reply.... Radio is no longer available!

I'm afraid I looked into lakepowell and they have poor feedback. Some of their yahoo buyer protection links on their site are bad links and go nowhere. i would be surprised if they had the part since no one else does. If they do not reply I would stop payment on your order.

Well, my NS100 radio died yesterday. Not sure what the issue is. I looked at replacement radios but all but one required drilling new holes, wiring etc. The Raymarine Ray240 is almost identical setup to the stock Northstar Ns100 that is no longer available. It is not cheap but would be easiest to install and still look stock.

I agree the Ray240 would be a good and easy replacement for you however it is pretty expensive as I recall. Otherwise, you may be able to fine a replacement NS100 cheaper on Ebay. A friend of mine has a New in Box NS100 he may want to sell if you are interested.

Cannot transmit or receive although the display looks good. Cannot even get the NOAA weather. Antenna hookup looks good so not sure what happened. I looked under the helm and all the wires are very tight and stretched. I see that the radio has a 3 year warranty. I contacted Navico (they now own Northstar) and they tell me no longer available and to check with dealers. Some warranty this is. I notice many marine items are dropped or changed long before warranty expires so not sure what the value is. I did some more searching and found a couple of places that supposedly still have some complete units left between $400-$600. I'm going to go through my dealer and see if they can try to find the problem hopefully covered by the warranty (maybe a broken wire or something).

Take a look at the Cable connector that comes out the dash, the pins might be bent. If so you can usually straighten them out with a small flathead. 2 of us opened the handset and found the PTT microswitch pulling away from the PWB inside!

I need to get re-subscribed. I think my sponsorship expired last night and inbox limits were applied again. Should have it soon.

So, Navico told you they are no longer making the NS100s????
