We went boating today but in hindsight it was one of those days when my wife and I both agreed we should have stayed home. Not only was the air temperature hovering at 100 degrees our water temperature is at 90 + degrees as well pretty much everywhere. Surface water temperatures are even hotter than that. So you cant even cool off in the water.

In the nine years I have boated on Lake Wylie I can never remember water temperatures being this high ever. The bad part about this is August, traditionally the hottest month, is yet to come. If I had cockpit air conditioning maybe boating wouldn't be too bad but that wasn't an option on a 260DA. :smt043

I know we are not alone with this hot weather but I wonder who has waters as warm as ours?

It'll be a cold day in hell when it's too hot to go boating.

Lots of cold beer and water...and some water guns...plenty of ways to stay cool.

No such thing....During July and August its not uncommon to have air temps of 115º+ with water temps around 90º....of course relative humidity is usually less than 10% so as long as you stay wet and in the shade you can stay quite comfortable.

Dave,

That said Paige just walked downstairs and asked if i was going to cut the grass...to which I replied Dave says it is too hot to be boating surely I can't go out there on that riding lawn mower. Needless to say it was a worthy attempt but she did not buy it.

We have the same situation. Last weekend I floated under the bow near the anchor rope to stay in the shade.

About the same here...currently it's 96F. I plan to be out early tomorrow morning. The humidity here it what makes the difference between hot and unbearable days. Today it's just hot. Humidity is about 40%

Why don't you have Paige cut the grass..........or maybe your daughter?:smt043

Say it isn't so. First I'm reading a thread that summer is over, and now its too hot to go out. Not too many postman workers here (Neither snow nor rain nor gloom....)

We here in New England have decided, If the sand on the beach, melts and turns to glass, then it is too hot to boat. Other than that.....Game on!

Well in PCB it gets over 100 and I lay in the water half in and out on a ring float and every once in a while find some deeper cooler water and make the heat go away. But its NEVER, EVER TO HOT TO GO BOATING DAVE! :smt021  :grin:

It is all about Algore...in trouble but still saying it is about the warming of the earth....f that....it is summer.

Shame on you...no such thing. Here in SW FL, the Gulf waters can get up to 90+. Sitting here at the dock with TS Bonnie bearing down, is it too wet to go boating? I think not...

Depends on whether it's a trip to the sandbar to anchor out- and be in the water; or go for a joyride.

It's not just the air temp (it's 95 degrees a lot of places in July/Aug), being in the sub-tropics means the sun is brutally hot. 95 degrees in New York is nothing like 95 degrees in Tampa/Orlando...

I mostly gave up offshore fishing during the summer. We often have NO wind during the summer once you're more than 15 miles offshore and away from the land-driven sea breeze. Floating in a flat calm sea sounds like a great thing, unless it's 95 and not a cloud in the sky or the slightest breeze. Brutal...

Dave you're not alone. Kim & I had planned to got to the lake tomorrow (would have been our 1st time out this year) but I told her it was just too dam hot. I'd be sweating like a pig just backing down the ramp. Not my idea of a fun day.

There's no such thing as too hot to go boating. We typically get a week or two of 100°+ and we boat right through the summer. I had my 330 outfitted with a long bimini and white screens to help hold down the heat. Last year it was 112° one day when we were out. Spent a lot of time in the water that day, but it was still danm hot.
