I think we're already north of Charlotte Harbour, but thanks. We're in the Lemon Bay, Cape Haze, Palm Island, Placida area.

Well, we're back in the water. We will be out around Venice, Crows Nest, ICW area or Gulf if nice, breaking in the motor for a few hours around noon-ish. Where will you be?

Jeff!

We're going to head out soon - we'll be going outside to Venice, then we are thinking about going inside from Venice to Sarasota for the beautiful views. Where should we meet?

Hi John,

My wife and I are vacationing on Anna Maria Island and have a rental boat for this week. We would love to meet up and buy you a drink? Where will you be staying in Sarasota? Where are you heading after that?

I called - he's having rental boat problems, but, we're going to try to meet up later.

After getting hammered today getting in and out of passes, we needed another resort so we stopped in at Longboat Key Club and Resort. I just couldn't stay inside for so long, so, we followed some local boats out of Stump Pass out of Lemon Bay. It was tight, but we did fine. We turned North and pushed it up and had a pretty good following sea. We wanted to come in to Sarasota Bay, so, at the first pass, I turned the boat around to face South and got hammered by waves and spray. We couldn't make it in, so, we turned North and proceeded on.

When passing Venice, we were trying to connect with Jeff and his wife, but it was just too rough to justify anchoring out at the beach, and I didn't want to spend too much time inside. It's Sunday (I think), and it's like Caddyshack inside. Boats everywhere!

So, we continued North with salt spray drying all over the top of the boat and made an attempt at entering at Sarasota's "New" Pass. It took two tries and following locals, but we made it in without any problems. The Marine Max dealer just inside the pass is having "The biggest sale ever on now." Lots of nice, big, new boats - but, I needed to rinse mine, so we pressed inside and North in Sarasota Bay to this resort.

This place is pricey, but they are very, very nice, and provide lots of free amenities. Our boat is parked by the pool, the restaurant is right here, free bikes, free shuttle into town and the main resort, complete resort access... It's great. Now, back to chillaxin'.

A favorite weekend get-a-way for me from St. Pete is Longboat Key Club... it is pricey , but first class...you can also take the shuttle to St. Armands Circle with shops, restaurants, etc or they will take you to the main resort right on the beach. Enjoy!

Brian

Sorry we couldn't get together. How long are you staying at Longboat Key Club, just overnight?

Mike and Wendy (Mikemapva) stopped by with some gifts this evening. What a great couple! They're here on vacation from Va. Thanks for stopping in! More pics tomorrow.

Jeff, really sorry it didn't work out. Once we got headed North on the outside, it was just painful to turn or stop. I could have kept cruising for hours. We'll only be here overnight, but we may only go up to Anna Maria Isle tomorrow (that's the plan). We just don't know where we're going to stay up there yet. A sandy anchorage with beach access would be best.

Continue up the ICW from where you are, There is a small island by the bridge of the next inlet. Popular hangout, beer can island. Or to the west of the bridge, south side of the inlet, anchorage there too.

John and Shelli were great hosts! What a beautiful boat! Hope we can catch up with you in our rental boat sometime today.

Mike

Thanks, guys!

Yesterday, before we left Palm Island, we dinghied over to the island and saw the rest of the Palm Island Resort where the Rum Bay restaurant is. Then, we headed North and went out the Stump Inlet, then further North and eventually into the "New" Pass in Sarasota, around the Bay, then to the Longboat Key Club Marina - very nice.

After a few hours of serious relaxing, James brought the car (van) around and gave us a lift down South to St Armand Circle. We walked around, saw some art, got some ice tea, then headed back to the marina for a great Italian dinner then a visit from Mike and Wendy. This AM, we got up, borrowed the bikes, and went for a ride around the area and resort. Now, we're getting ready to find one of those great anchorages to the North. (PS- we also got a free rinse from nature)
