Stay on subject and tell us why a "Pay Czar" and what good the government does by dictating pay for ANYONE?..

Isn't it obvious? If Congress did not have a wage and salary system for Federal employees, members of Congress would earn market salaries. I'm not sure what the market pay is for people who work short hours, accomplish little, create problems and blow hot air. The government needs to establish a floor for the salaries of these people. If they earned what the market said they were worth, we would not be able to find anyone to serve.

I guess it does not qualify as "True Inflation," but when the assorted fees, cost of permits, public utilities and property taxes increase and additional service taxes go up or get imposed, it still cost an individual money. So let see I have had a pay cut imposed, any bonus or profit sharing curtailed, and yes I am still glad to be employed.

So now I am being charged more while making less, yes-siree Billy Bob to the PC crowd this is not inflation. But I sure would like to know another term for it, make less, so pay more.

i don't even know how to respond. Anyone who has owned, run, financed, invested, loaned is looking at what is going on and is paralyzed in disbelief. Obama IS destroying this country with Pelosi at his side. And it's not for the good of the country, but for the empowerment of the Dem party. If you can't see this... then you are blind. Do you really think that the forced bailouts and subsequent bankrupsy was for the good of America? it was for the unions, votes. The financial institutions are next in line. Government is socializing this country at full throttle. Viva La revolution!!!

I have to give a talk tomorrow evening to a group of entrepreneurs about Venture Capital... I'm half tempted to just send a note and say "just go home and collect free money from the government."

Don't forget to tell them to bury all of the capital that they do have in the back yard before the jack booted thugs show up to collect their share.

Its official.... we suck...

I think we all agree, we hope that our President can lead us in the right direction, but currently, it seems that he is only interested in trying to please everyone, while pleasing no one. He can not please Peter when he is taking from him to pay Paul.

Actually, the title of this thread is closer to the truth than most would imagine. When they designed our government, it had 3 branches, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. This was done for a reason, checks and balances. Unfortunately, now with the Executive and Legislative branches being both Dem based, we've lost that check and balance, and the Judicial branch doesn't get involved in some of the checks/balances that should go on between the other two by design.

Now the Executive branch has introduced Czars that only report to him (the anointed one), He's the Czar's Czar. (In the 30's and 40's, they called them dictators - I forget which president introduced them then, but it was to bring us out of the depression, there were dictators for the major industries, to keep the prices up). Unfortunately, the Czar's don't have any checks and balances in their design, they only report to Obama, and he controls them and what they rein over. Last I heard, there are now 22 Czar's that have been created in his little fiefdom.

Are there any true conservatives here? Anyone? Bueller?

Look - if you define a "conservative" as "somebody who dislikes or complains about liberals and/or democrats", then we got a million of those. But if you define a conservative as somebody who adheres to a certain set of conservative principals, then I haven't met many of them in the last 10 years.

Conservatives would never go for "borrow and spend" (Bush doubled national debt), or for nation building (i.e. Iraq), or big-government state run health programs (i.e. Prescription drug program), or local intrusion by federal government (i.e. No child left behind), or farm subsidies (up to 50% of Ethanol production was subsidized under Bush), or socialization of our government (i.e. Bush passed the first $700 Billion stimulus), or big government in general (i.e. Bush increased US budget by 50%), or liberal activist judges (i.e. Harriet Meyers was a close call).

And one more thing - did anybody notice the source of that article? It was from the New York Times which I thought no true conservative would ever believe in? I guess it's convenient to pick and choose when you want to believe in a certain principal, but I believe in these no matter who's in office.

I've been waiting over 20 years for a real conservative president. Obama and Bush have different styles - but they're both big government, big spending presidents and they are both to blame for the problems in America today.

See! It's all BUSH's FAULT!!!!!

I am thinking I can get 4500 for this damn go cart...

This is even worse than I thought. I'm guessing here but I would think the majority of the older cars that qualify are owned by lower income folks or at least folks that for some reason find it hard to support a more expensive vehicle. If the cars are to be destroyed there is no sense in trading in a vehicle with a value much over the $4,500 or you're losing money. So they'e lureing the group in, encouraging them to take on more debt in a period of massive job loss and economic instability. What are they going to do, make the banks loan out the money? What will come after, massive defaults on auto loans, a mini bubble? This is like the everybody should have a house strategy.

This is more of the gub'mint getting involved where it shouldn't again, and again, and again.

My navigator with over 300,000 miles probably isn't worth $4,500. Have not looked at the "book" value for one in nominal condition to determine what if would be worth if I do what I usually do with worn-out cars. That is: Donate them to the local first aid squad for them to use as training vehicles for practice using "the jaws of life." Once they finish with the cars, there's not much left of them. Then I get to take the tax deduction.

Who ever said that Bush was a conservative?

All of this is small potatoes, however. One of my heros, Arthur Laffer said what we saw during the 70s would be good times compared to what Osama is bringing us. Everyone ready for more Jimmah Carter "malaise?"

The unprecedented expansion of the money supply could make the '70s look benign.

Best regards,
Frank

This morning on my drive into work, I saw an old '90's chrysler mini-van with a $900 tag on it, and a sign "still runs" on the window. I was almost ready to stop and offer 'em $500 for it, I could turn it in to $4000 cash!

sweet!

Part of this program is that all traded cars will be destroyed. This will affect the used car, salvage/parts/repair businesses. Depending on how long they use this program it has the potential to force car owners to buy more new cars rather than buy used or maintain older ones. They say this is about emissions and fuel economy but it looks to me like it is primarily about generating car sales.

To the current party in power, that's called a WIN-WIN-WIN solution.

Both of your parties suck, neither of them are true to what they stood for in the beginning and have been molested into vague representations of ideals left behind.

Our forefathers NEVER envisioned that politics would be a lifelong career, and thus I feel the main crux of this whole fiasco we have now.

The right can blame Obama who inherited a disaster and doesnt look to be doing much but bloating the government into an even larger bureaucratic crapshoot, and the left can blame Bush who had 8 years to fix problems but would rather have been at Camp David with a line of snort and praising jesus.

When you finally wake up from your political toeing, you will ALL realize you are merely sheep at the beck and call of the sheepherders who have pit you to take sides while they play the blame game to keep you occupied and unaware that all of them have corrupted the government into their own private corporation.

Can we get an amendment tacked onto the Cash for Clunkers bill to include trade-ins of old, worn out boats? There's an old Chrysler tri-hull runabout with an emission-spewing two stroke outboard (it would spew emissions if it could be started) sitting on a rusted trailer with flat tires a few blocks away that hasn't been moved in years....

Today in the office I got an unsolicited call. When I answered, the woman at the other end never introduced herself. She only said, "Can you direct me to the person that handles your cleaning?" I thought for a second and replied, "That would be president Barak Obama, he's been cleaning out all my money." She just hung up.

I absolutely do not agree, with the "that our President can lead us in the right direction" part of that statement. Leadership involves making very difficult decisions. He has yet to do that in his life. The man is a Soros et.al. puppet.

The only thing more repulsive than this President's administration is the fact the Republican party is in bed with him out of pure fear.

The founding fathers are crying and rightfully so.
