would you take a 240SD to the Bahamas?

Thought some would get a kick out of this.

Formula 270 Bowrider
Goes to Bahamas
for Lunch

Just 56 miles from Miami, the Bahamas make an exciting destination for this 270 Formula.
If you have ever wondered where Formula takes the photography for their boats, it is in the Bahamas, and the boats makes it across the Gulf Stream and back each year on their own bottoms. They've been doing it for two decades and being able to make the trip and back on a tank of fuel is one of the company's design criteria for every boat they build. The 270 pictured here is an ideal boat to take to Bimini, Gun Cay or Cat Cay for a day of snorkeling, swimming, scuba and sunning in the gin clear waters of the Bahamas Banks. On a flat day, the 270 can make it there in just over an hour, and have plenty of fuel for a day of excitement and make it back to Miami in time for cocktails. You might not take your Formula to the Bahamas, but it's nice to know that you could.

Hmmm so when are we going Chuck?
I have to wait for the North GA Mountain Real Estate market to pick back up. (Grin)

You just couldn't resist, could you Chuck...?

Sorry I almost did not post it.

Gotta say.... I've been running the 240 for a few years on this little river known as the Potomac, home of Skip and Gary. When the wind kicks up or Skip of Gary buzz me trying to flip us little boaters over, I get nervous here even when I can get to shore pretty quickly. The 240SD is not a big water boat. From Kayaks to 57 footers, I've captained just about everything in between, but you have GOT to respect the body of water and expect things can go bad.

I've been in bad situations trying to do rescues is my past and it may make me more conservative that some. You ever performed CPR on a girl on a dock who got brought in from making a dumb decision with her boat choice vs. weather?

Once you've done that you think about the consequences a bit more.

Chuck if it's anything like the East Tennessee AV market it might be a while yet.........:smt009

Don't you just tie an anchor to the stern if things get too rough?

There is a significant difference between a 27' Deep V bowrider and a 24' Sundeck.

I am sure that either boat could make the crossing. . and that things can quickly get dicey for either boat.

Hmm. . just watched the video. COOL. I gotta tell you. . seeing that boat sway in the dock. . I certainly appreciate the 9'6" beam of my 280SS. Hmmm. Single engine.

We go to the Bahamas with our group and we do not allow open bow boats, unless they are designer for quick drainage (scuppers) to remove water when (not if) you take one over the bow.
Like everyone says, seas/weather change quickly and an open bow is not the boat you want when your waiting out a storm 5-10 miles off shore on your entrance to Bimini. Bimini inlet is not for the weak of heart when entering during a storm. Very few markers and very shallow water if you miss the cut. I agree a big boat doesn't help on the entrance but it does help when you waiting out the storm outside for the appropriate time to enter the channel. I would not want to rush that entrance anytime soon.

So I quess a 240SD could go with you?

Scuppers? You mean those four drainage holes connected to 1/2" tubes that drain the deck (mostly) when I wash down the boat?
Hmmm. I really wonder how fast my cockpit would drain if I took a wave badly.

You are right. I stand corrected. A smaller boat would handle rough water MUCH better. :smt101

Check out the specs. Not a whole lot of difference except for the weight. About 8" longer, 1 degree more in dead rise, 1" less draft.

Hmm. . .I would have thought there was more difference. Especially in the Freeboard on the bow. Dang those model numbers.

I wonder how Formula handles the lawsuits. . . .
