Anyone familiar with some camp sites in SC in December? Looking to do some freshwater fishing. the warmer the better as we'll be truck tent camping.

Another link to check.

You never know what the weather will be down here at any given time. I'm in coastal Ga just South of SC and recently we have been anywhere from the 20's to the 60's at night and the 50's to upper 70's in the day time. A zip code near Columbia SC that you can use to check weather with is, 29036, this is at Lake Murray and one of the state parks is in Lake Murray.

That's what I was afraid of, some cold nights.

I'll check out these sites. thanks.

What part of SC are you thinking about? Coast/Low Country/Foot Hills?

Not sure yet. I've never been so i'm open to all.

Theres a fresh water fishing site on charlestonfishing.com that may help you. I have camped several places, but am not familiar with the fishing end of things.

The closer you get to Georgia, the more banjo pickers with messed up teeth you run into in the woods. Something to think about ya know, some of that deliverance type stuff in them woods

I think the best place to camp is about 10 miles inland on the mainland by Hilton Head...

Paris Island?

If you go there, don't forget to bring a metal detector with you. I hear they lost a nuclear warhead down there :wow:

In all seriousness, what kind of camping you looking to do Mike? Coastal, inland? Its not at all uncommon to have 70+ degree days at the NC/SC coastal areas this time of year. I can highly recommend Cape Lookout, awesome place to camp in the winter. But, its all primitive camping, not even a road on the island. Have to take a ferry over to it and have a 4x4 vehicle to get around on the sand. 22 miles of NC's finest beach all to yourself this time of year to drive on, surf fish etc.

His first post says truck tent camping and freshwater fishing so I would think more to the inland side of things. Something like maybe Lake Murray right out of Columbia, it has a state park and is supposed to be a good fishing lake. I am not sure what may be on the freshwater rivers closer to the coast. Santee Cooper is another possibility, I95 runs right through it, could work his way into the next lake and on into the Cooper river.

Hey Newbie, dem boys in dat clip you posted ain't no Georgia rednecks, dem straight out of de hills of NC. :smt043

Or SC:thumbsup:

Mike,

Not sure how far inland you are talking but there are some great places around Lake Keowee & Lake Hartwell.

Lake Hartwell was at an all time low last week, not sure about this week. Most of the campsites I am familair with on Hartwell would not be good choices because of the low water levels.

Keowee has water and so does Lake Murray. Both of these lakes had plenty of water last week when I saw them. Lake Murray has several good campsites and places to fish. Keowee has a couple also.

As for the locals just learn to say Ya'll so you will fit in.

Turtle:

It is official now all ramps at Lake Hartwell are closed. The water levels are still falling and are expected to keep falling for the foreseeable future. They are now bringing in 200 ton cranes to remove the big sail boats as there moorings are drying up.

We are camping in myrtle beach. Crazy town. Still cold. Going to head further south.

No, that was 2 days ago. We were trying to leave a burning bag of dog poop on your door step but I forgot to bring matches.
