Having trouble understanding current events

I got pulled over for speeding yesterday. Where in the constitution does it require me to go the speed limit?
If not designated to the federal government in the constitution it is left to the states, I presume you were not ticketed by the FBI which would be unconstitutional…

I was not ticketed at all.

But just wanted to confirm we do have laws not designated in the constitution and they do apply to all citizens. Even ones that used to be president. Is that true?

Not being a lawyer, I want to understand

Is obstruction of a grand jury subpoena against the law?

This sort of seems like it is…

“Failure to comply fully with a grand jury subpoena can result in contempt of court proceedings and even obstruction of justice allegations.”

All these bleeding heart liberals like Bill Barr and Chris Christie, both of whom I am pretty sure are lawyers, agree with the DOJ?? Witch-hunt, indeed. What a bunch of Marxists trying to destroy our country!!

“It’s not only the nature of the documents. We now have a good idea of the timeline. This has been 16 months that the Department of Justice has been saying please, asking nicely, negotiating with his attorneys, taking up partial production, seeing a non-response to a subpoena," Christie said.

"They had no choice, in my view, but to go in and take them, because of the nature of the documents," he added.

“Broad discretion”, what does that mean?

Where in the constitution does it require a President to acquiesce to others his powers?

Who possesses that power over a President?

Who has the power to tell a president what is personal and what is not?

Who has the power to tell a President how they designate things personal?

Why do you assume the tapes in Bill Clinton’s sock drawer were personal and not nuclear discussions?

Why do you believe the very same departments that have been caught lying about Trump before are now telling the truth?
Easy answer -- the people on CNN.

Actually, it's an open question what laws may apply to a President. I know we don't like it and we want to say "nobody is above the law" but as the top Constitutional officer there could be a legitimate question. Especially in this case where we are talking about documents, classification and such -- things within the purview of the President (As distinguished from murder, etc.). Nixon saved us from the Constitutional dilemma by resigning. Trump's case may very well address some of those questions.

Only if you're Republican. :)

He's paid to talk out his ass. Even he doesn't know the true nature of the documents. There are actually real issues to be decided.

Wouldn’t you think his talking out of his ass would indeed support the former president?

Sure, I get your point if he was still POTUS. He is FPOTUS. If he broke the law while a citizen just like us, the law would apply the same as to us, no?

Obama couldn’t defy or obstruct a GJ subpoena and say he was POTUS so he can do whatever he wants, correct?

We are talking about possession of documents here, (not murder) and you and I were not elected President so we have no ability to designate classified documents as personal.

But we are talking about obstructing the GJ subpoena, as FPOTUS. What’s the read there? Can Obama do that as FPOTUS? Obviously someone lied to the DOJ when they affirmed that was all the documents they could find. Feels kind of obstructive to me, the non-lawyer.

Did FPOTUS tell the NARA he designated all those documents as personal before the subpoena? If so, I would think there would be a paper trail to that effect. Wouldn’t you? How else would anyone know?
