Having trouble understanding current events

SCOTUS has already had rulings on this topic.

The Supreme Court confirmed as much in its 1988 ruling in Department of Navy v. Egan.”

"[The president's] authority to classify and control access to information bearing on national security … flows primarily from this constitutional investment of power in the president and exists quite apart from any explicit congressional grant," the court said.”
True enough with respect to the processes for classification and declassification. The President expresses his authority via Executive Orders and other directives. EO 13526 does exactly that and even lays out specifics for sitting and former presidents. It lays out the conditions for declassification and "so I can read them on the john" is not amongst the reasons.

This is just all wrong from a constitutional perspective. Could Trump sign and executive order saying that future presidents could not issue executive orders? By the order the next President could not issue an EO reversing the order because the order prevents that.

No previous EO is binding on future Presidents.

So in post #1360 you say President Trump was protected by President Obama's Executive Order, two posts later you think President Obama's was unconstitutional?
A sitting President may revoke or amend a predecessor's Executive Orders. Some are written with an expiration date. Otherwise, they remain in effect. Happens all the time.

I just posted a quote in 1360.

Where does this requirement of process binding on a President come from?

That’s kind of the problem. DC is all focused on “the process.” Which is why things never get done. Guys like Trump are looking for results and say “f the process” and just do it. It drives political elites crazy.
This is what they love and are hanging their hats on, they will get Trump with extra constitutional procedures…

I never heard most of these conspiracy theories….. anyone else ?

By your argument, any president can do anything he wants with regard to national security documents? Like…sell them to Saudi Arabia? You don’t think the espionage act would make that illegal?? Does the constitution give him the power to do that?
He can tell Saudi Arabia anything he fkg wants.

Maybe there is some embarrassing information but that isn't the point. By definition, the markings on the TS documents indicate their disclosure could cause exceptionally grave damage to National Security. Are you OK with that?
Yes. Perfectly fine by me because we live in a free society and I think 95% of “classified” info is bullchit. I don’t believe those documents say anything important. Why would Trump want to harm American?

Because he truly only cares about Trump. If you don’t see that, you are sadly delusional.

He is 100% transactional and if there was a way for him to monetize those documents, would you be shocked if he had?

You would have been ok with Obama having done the same?

No. That’s just fact. If he damages the USA in doing so, impeachment is the remedy. Not what some fkg bureaucrat says.
He is out of office. Rather the point of the laws governing the control of the documents for even ex-presidents.

Well, the plane I assumed hit the Pentagon flew right over my head about 1/10 of a mile out and I heard and felt the impact a few seconds later. I also went in the hole in the Pentagon a few days later and saw pieces of an airplane with "AA" markings. If it was a missile, it was a mighty big one, bigger than anything in the US inventory.

No evidence I've seen says President Trump wanted to hurt anyone. But, mishandling classified documents can have that effect regardless of intentions.
I don't see how anyone who hasn't had clearance and access at the levels that were found can appreciate how damaging compromise of that material could be. If you've had that experience then I think your opinion is misguided. If you haven't, then your opinion is meaningless even though you are welcome to it.

Wow, really proved me wrong there.
The burden is on you to prove you right. Trump has probably lost billions in actual earnings, future earnings, and reputation by becoming President. Provide any evidence that he had a net benefit from being President. Provide evidence of any Trump policy that actually hurt the USA in a material way. Most of it is semantics and elitist bs.
