The Admiral and I decided to get our home painted. After an exhausting search to find the right colors that took over a month, and a search of Craigslist to find a good company, it finally got started about 2 weeks ago.
The contractor did some wood replacement (the house is ~20 years old) then brought on his painting crew. Four guys showed up to start painting and it took them 8 days to get it done. There was one day of weather delay in there and I didn't count that in the 8 days.
I'm fairly picky about a job like this and I must say that their work was exemplary. They sprayed, rolled and brushed the paint and I've never seen paint put on so thick. Also, their attention to detail was amazing. They did some "extras" at no extra charge and we appreciated that
One of the extras was--we have a cupola on the roof that has a weathervane on it. The weathervane was way off in it's alignment so when they were painting the cupola they straightened the weathervane so it points north again, then put a screw into it so it can't change directions, then painted the weathervane with a high gloss, high temperature black paint. Then, to top it off they painted the letters (N,S,E,W) a bright gold color.
Another free extra was my wife had picked out the color to paint the front doors. We gave them a paint sample and they bought the paint. After the paint was on, I hated the color. So, back to Lowe's to pick a different color, then get a sample to give to the painters, then back to the paint store for the new color, then repaint the doors. This color is acceptable to me. Not one I would have picked, but acceptable.
Anyway, the thread is a pat on the back to the contractor and the painting company for a job well done.
