Interesting stuff a previous owner left on the boat you purchased

Bottle of Tito’s, a few beers, and some Costco scotch. Lots of moldy bedding in the bilge, bad cookware, and glassware (yes, glass!). Lots of stuff went into the dumpster. The scotch should have, but the liquor store was too far from where we started off from last fall.

Best find was extra shore cords and spare props. And adaptors for days. Worst find was a rotten hamburger patty in the ice maker. Fortunately, no nasty porn or sex toys. That would’ve sent my wife overboard.

Ditto for my boat (minus the nudie flick!), the owner's wife had recently passed and he was getting out of boating. It was apparently "her boat", but with all of the detailed maintenance manuals he left on board, it was clear that he liked keeping everything ship shape.

He even threw in a spare set of props, which I did not expect as they weren't on the boat during the inspection/sea trial. I found out later from my broker that he intended to keep them and sell them separately, but because we didn't dicker/nickle and dime him, he liked us and gave them as part of the deal.

Similar and sad story….the 44DB we bought was docked in Pensacola Beach, FL and the owner lived in Baton Rouge. He was a prominent attorney that was dying with brain cancer and wanted the cash from the boat sale for his family. While we were waiting on the closing, he signed over POA to his wife and he passed before we closed.

You guys got lucky. The PO of ours took everything out. He even was going to keep the manuals and books that went with the boat from factory. Very snooty folks. Even took the ratchet straps off the back of the boat to strap to the trailer. When the wife was writing the check, they guy was wanting to get in the boat to get the 40 gallons of non ethanol gas out. Guy later called about the gas. Just a real douche.

Thats what the wife said. All we got with it was the dirt and lack of maint. His call a few days later asking for the money for the fuel was the kicker for me. Just the nerve.

Oh well. Done is done and we move on. I will have to remember the to put some tittie magazines in if we sell it.

Spike was the PO for my boat. I’m very lucky for that but he did leave me a brand new starter. In the box, still wrapped up nicely.

At least I think it was him, could have been SeaRay of Richmond

When we bought our current boat from the broker…. And paid for it…. So we owned it but didn’t take it to our marina yet. The broker calls and says the previous owner wants to take some personal stuff off the boat…. I said are you kidding?… I said what was on there I didn’t see anything of value…. He said they staged the boat and wanted pillows mats towels vases and flowers……I laughed and said no problem it was all getting thrown out any way…..
If you have balls you need to save them for important stuff…. Not pink pillows :)

On this boat we got some basic stuff. Some mismatched utensils, some custom linens (kinda ugly, but they are $$$ to replace), some spares like filters and fluids. Fenders and dock lines. Not much else. There were no fire extinguishers or PFDs, so the broker threw in a set at delivery.

Oh, there was plenty of TP, and some bottled water in the fridge.

PO left quite a bit of stuff on the boat. The warden insisted on tossing all the bedding, but they left it full of dishes, glasses etc plus a blender and some other applicances. Found manuals for just about everything, plenty of boat-related books, spare parts like impellers and belts, and several life jackets.

I bought mine from a friend that used it as a cabin more than anything. I don't think he actually took it from the slip once on two years - marina took it to and from storage.

I spent the first week doing nothing but cleaning and emptying the shop vac full of dog hair. Even the engines were covered in dog hair.

Someone I know bought their boat which had been on storage for years. A real project. Cleaning and mildew, etc. Lots of work to get it back in shape. Afyer months of working on it, deep in one of the storage compartments they found a canvas bag filled with the old silver quarters(hundreds of them)! Not sure why someone would keep that on board, but it made the deal a bit sweeter.

Did you drink any of the soft drinks and beer? What was that like? I've got some 2-3 year old beer in my cooler, but don't really drink much so don't know how they will taste if we get around to opening them up.

Actually all that went to the dumpster the day before the survey, along with the dried flowers & nick-nack stuff that was GLUED DOWN to the corian countertops, as I needed to know they could be removed with no damage.

Then there were numerous trips to the marina dumpster after closing to get her ready for transport. Every trip off the dock included full trash bags and armloads of stuff.

At one point the marina cart was even deployed.

Considering the dude that asked for the fuel, I'd like payment for that starter....:D Just kidding. Yes I left it. It wouldn't work on the new boat.

When I went through the 506 outfitting it with our personal gear, I found a box of latex gloves in the forward head supplies locker and stuffed under the gloves were about twenty large condoms (new in the package). I wondered if the boat as used by the owner as a stabbin cabin. I could not figure out otherwise why they would have been stashed away otherwise. I still see the previous owner from time to time and often wonder how fun it would be to ask him what that is all about;) Not sure I really want to know.
