There is a white LED rope light that goes under the granite counter edge...

Thanks, that got me started. There's NOT a rope light under our granite, but that got me searching further... and it looks like there's a rope light just underneath the upper wood "medicine" (storage) cabinet. Now that I see that, I also see #20 -- 110V "flex" light -- in the Parts Manual. Not working, of course. At least I'll know now what the heck I'm missing. :)

I'll look this weekend where my rope light is - maybe its under the cabinet. Susan and I dion't turn that one on very ofter...

Not to be too technical, but the indirect light in the master head is under the mirror cabinet providing “mood” lighting over the counter top. I had to replace mine 4-5 years ago when it decided to go dead. Now I am planning to deal with the indirect lights in the salon on the columns on both sides.

Ummm... more non-working lights I don't know about? Great...

So far, I've replaced 58 lights with LEDs. 36 were burned-out, including 4 of 5 nav lights (i.e., including the anchor light). Still need to source replacements for a couple of those (1 fridge drawer, this rope light in the head).

The letters are nice and dark when they show up. The issue is two weeks ago it would beep the alarm at random times, but only when the display would show some form of letters that would seem to suggest it trying to say all systems normal. Other times it would have between one letter/symbol and all the letters/symbols on both lines with random letters and symbols. This past weekend, not a peep out of it and not a single letter or symbol displayed. There was a frayed wire that I found when I had the gauge panel down, and I replaced that but didn't make any difference.

Could be the same issue. However, mine still works. I think there may be some sort of processor in the forward of the engine room. I thought the LCD display was failing.

The first thing to do is put new ends on the coax cable both at the display and at the control module in the engine room.
If that doesn't resolve the issue then there is ninety percent chance the display or control module has or is failing.
Text in the display dimming and illegible is typically the display unit failing which isn't that uncommon.....

I've never seen a 58 that those work on (including mine). One time, in some rough water at night, I saw one corner of one of mine illuminated. They are 110v LED rope lights and if you remove the forward sofa backs, you will see a standard plug that is switched to "Indirect" on the salon lighting controls. I believe @ttmott removed his center piece and replaced his.

@carterchapman , mine worked when I first bought the boat 6 years ago. Slowly they stopped working in sections, and interestingly enough I turned them on by mistake the other day and about half of them lit up!

I’m familiar with the process as Sea Ray sent me a drawing. They also told me the center fabric panels are attached with Christmas tree plugs and I needed to pull harder to remove them. Well I did, and low and behold they were actually screwed on from behind so I pulled the panel right off the screws. Essentially there is no other way to do it because you cannot get behind them to unscrew them.

All of this is the long explanation as to why I haven’t taken on this project yet.

Thanks Jeff,

I remember your post now - I thought it was @ttmott that did that.

It looks like they are held in place with tie wraps and once those are cut, it looks like the LED Rope can be cut/pulled down a small hole at the bottom. If the new LED rope can be pulled through and reattached with tie wraps (that are mostly hidden), the center panel may not have to be removed...

I don't know what I'm missing -- so I guess I'm not missing it very much!

We have two "Indirect" switches for the saloon, and neither seems to do anything. I suspect I can put that issue of for later... or maybe even never unless ya'll find an easier fix than what's described so far. :)

@ranger58sb , the fabric covered panels on both sides of the salon, between the salon proper and the dinette area and galley area, have rope lighting behind them for indirect lighting. The second indirect light switch you reference is probably the puck light inset above the tv which is much easier to service and replace the bulb. The switch for that light is not labeled on my boat, but I could imagine it being labeled “indirect.”

Ah. Puck light above TV. Found it! Didn't know it was there. No bulb, no lens. I'll have to get the 'scope out to see what it needs, but it "feels" like it might be a G4, and I've got a couple spare LEDs of those around, so I can experiment. And I've found an orphaned round silver-colored (metal) lens housing with glass lens, so maybe that's a match if I'm lucky. Anyway, I'll report back after I get time to look closer at that.

Brings my official count to 39 lights that were not working. So far, all simply burned-out "bulbs" of some sort, pending examination of those 110V ropes.

It amazing how many indirect lights there, we still struggle turning off the lights in the master as we go to bed, which one of the 4 indirects is the one for the headboard reading lamps!

Sure enough, G4, and I had one. And that orphaned lens housing fit (although I guess I re-used the glass lens somewhere else in the meantime...). Works on the upper "Indirect" switch.

Scott, if it helps, the mnemonic I've been using is that an upper (higher) "indirect" switch, either at the entrance or by the beside, works the higher light sconce lights, and the lower "Indirect" switches in both places work the under-bed rope lights. Something like that. I think. From memory, without having rechecked.

We leave the reading light switch ON, and control them by their individual switches...then you can turn it off without having to reach the main switch panel...

Alright I busted into the indirect lighting project on the salon side panels. You need 3/8” rope light 120v & 4’ long. If you get the same plastic connector you won’t even need to fish the wire down to the plug behind the sofa back.

Looks like you just pried them off? So the panels are attached with screws from inside the framing and leading into the panels. Is it 4 screws, two each to and bottom?

Re-attachable somehow, without visible screws? Or maybe screws from the outside, but then hidden with bungs?

What makes these lights not work? Sounds symptomatic...

Ours don't have switches at the lights, project #157

The VIP and bunk rooms have switches on the lights, but not the master.
