And just to pile on myself --- If you go to a doctor and they say that you have cancer, will you go see a politician for a second opinion? Do you call CNN or FOX to arrange an appointment? Do you direct the hospital or clinic to fire your doctor?

Or do you ask for a referral to another specialist doctor?

I think this is a bit obtuse. But to a general point the political battle lines are being drawn; The heavy blue states want to continue lockdown and the heavy red states are opening up. The facts are revealing, however, that as Florida and Georgia for example are opening up the infectious rate is not increasing, in fact, with cautious optimism decreasing; but it seems NY, CA, Mi, and Wa want to remain locked down indefinitely with some reports to await for a vaccination. It appears the Dems are staking a bet that dragging the nation to it's knees will benefit the party in November (that blame-game). I breezed through Speaker Pelosi's Phase 4 Stimulus Bill (over a thousand pages) last night and was completely floored with it's reach beyond the intent; it's based more on agenda than the situation which in my opinion is poor judgement and pathetic... It's a non-starter and won't make to the executive's desk which will be used in the blame-game. The bottom line is, in my opinion, the progressives are making a huge strategic mistake and tragically using our dire situation as political positioning.
So, regarding the players -
  • Dr. Fauci and other medical professionals - Lays out the facts, the research, and provides professional recommendations and opinion.
  • Task Force - Assembles the data and collects data from all corners and provides collective data and recommended path forward.
  • Executive Branch - Establishes policy and path forward for the federal Gov with structured recommendations to the State's Governors.
  • The House and Senate - posturing for November, no value added; truly abysmal.
  • State's Governors and legislators - the ultimate decision.
  • The media - The real pandemic, god help us all....

Its too early to tell with Florida and Georgia's numbers. Its a 14 day incubation to full symptoms and a logarithmic increase if cases start to rise and spread. IT starts slow. Look at the early graphs of case increases. If its starts again, you start at the bottom of those curves. You will know how successful things are 30 days from now.

I hope you are right and that the wide-spread public knowledge of how fast this spreads keeps people vigilant with the new "normal". Ontario has started to open things up slowly this coming week. Marina's got the green light to open tomorrow (YAHOO!).

If people don't follow the medical advice and guidelines, and they ignore the distancing and other protocols, this absolutely will ramp up again. Absolutely nothing has changed to prevent that from happening all over again. The vast majority of people have not been infected yet and are not immune and there is no vaccine.

Nothing will stop a rapid rebound except the actions of the general population. And the actions of the general population are highly influenced by what "leaders" spout from their pulpits. And if politicians tell the people to ignore the medical profession and scientists and imply they are incompetent or lying, the general population will ignore the medical profession's educated, science-based advice. Facts matter. Words matter. Leadership matters. Time will tell.
 
All statistics are only as accurate as the data put into the model and the legitimacy of the model.

NC has relaxed the criteria for getting a Covid test and in the last week we doubled the number of persons being tested daily. Of course, with more testing the number of confirmed cases spiked yesterday to the highest since March. Does this mean NC is seeing a resurgence of Covid? No, it shows that using confirmed cases as a metric is flawed.

I live in Charlotte the largest city in NC. I do not know anyone who has had Covid. I don't know anyone who knows anyone who has had Covid.

Yesterday we drove to SC had a nice lunch with some draft beer.

Going out on the lake tomorrow. Predicted 87 and sunny.
 
I’ve flown 3 flights in the last 3 weeks. I’ve only worn a mask on an airline that required it otherwise I have not worn a mask. It’s a shame the ignorance re wearing masks. There’s tons of misinformation.

If you’re one of those who wears a mask inside your car driving w the windows up, you might want to invest in goggles for your eyes which are just if not more susceptible to coronavirus.

Masks are rated by testing them in ideal laboratory conditions. Your N95 filters particles 0.3 microns.

Anybody know the size of this or any virus? Are you aware viruses are the smallest living organism?

The Corona virions range from 0.125 to .02 with the largest being 0.14 microns. Do the math.

Will a mask help? Maybe and if you use it perfectly and I’ve seen few using there masks perfectly. The whole mask issue has gotten political.

In addition I don’t see anyone who has mask religion wearing protective eye wear. Nobody.

They have little information.

sorry to say but first : a virus is not a living organism . it needs a living organism to reproduce and to be transported , it cannot move by itself .

second : it is spread to others via the air you exhale while e.g speaking . since you exhaled air is not dry it sits in small droplets . these droplets are large enough your n95 will catch it easily.

If you refuse to wear a mask and refuse to follow social distancing and infect somebody then you should be charged with Criminal Negligence.
If the person you infected dies, then you should be charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death!
My thoughts and rant.
 
it's too bad this forum has become political...........i joined so i could learn boat related things from other sea ray owners............didn't join to listen to political musings...............not gonna put my desire to go out on the water over my health or the health of others............if it sits in the driveway this year, it sits in the driveway............same with the diesel class a.........................

As I sit in the cabin on the boat waiting for the wind to let up so I can go work topsides, I've read a few pages of this thread.

Tough times for sure, I feel pretty safe saying the world has not bee in the predicament ever before. Sure...we've had global pandemics, but not in todays jet setting fast traveling crowd of commuting across states and fast coast to coast and international flights. People are more mobile than ever before.

It's a difficult balancing act we have. Many of us are caught in the middle. Much like in politics. While I think a "slow the spread" was necessary at first, I feel we need to slowly, carefully open up, and be mindful about safety. Being in small business myself, the economy cannot remain shut down. An effective vaccine is likely at least a year away. The "heard immunity" is a long way away also. So not sure how long people expect to remain "shut down"...states are nearing bankruptcy, and the Feds can't keep adding to the deficit with lots of 3 trillion dollar handouts.

i'm lucky enough to be in an essential business..."small business IT consultant". But we've taken a hit as many of our clients have closed up. Luckily we have about 40% of our monthly as clients who will remain open and we have fixed monthly contracts with. We'll hold on.

My wife is a Realtor, she's taken a big hit. Not many people buying homes in such an insure economy.
So I consider us lucky, my income has maintained, hers...she has a trickle.

Many people are not as lucky/fortunate.

The gears of the economy need to start turning again. I can accept that it needs to be slowly, cautiously. As long as the gears start to turn again...even if slowly at first, hopefully gaining momentum as months pass.

You make the argument that a non surgical mask will be ineffective on keeping the wearer safe on the basis of science. Why are you blind to the science that shows a mask of any grade will keep the contagious from infecting others? Why do you ignore the science that grows everyday through antibody testing that is beginning to show the number of cases of Covid-19 by people who didn’t even think they were sick? That means contagious people (Like you maybe?) out there walking around infecting others.

So when you got on a plane, or walked through an airport without a mask, how do you know you weren’t spreading this disease? Were you tested? When? If it wasn’t with a day or two of your travels, the results mean nothing. How do you know? Do you even care? Was it because you feel ok? That doesn’t prove anything.

Depends on what science you're listening too... there are more than two sides to the mask theory of effectiveness.

Condoms stop the spread of STDs. Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze stops the spread of germs. A mask will do the same. Get the science now? The science of the effectiveness of masks is known. The counter point that they don’t work is unfounded.

So tell me why was I wrong? How did el capitano know he wasn’t spreading Covid-19 in his cavalier don’t give a F walk through airports? Let’s hear the other science that says a mask won’t stop snot and snot infected droplets from spewing into the air? Go ahead dazzle me with your intellect with how there are two sides to whether a mechanical barrier will, or will not stop snot droplets.
