One of my salon overhead lights is not working. I assume it is a bulb that needs to be changed. I am not sure how to pull down the light fixture and replace the bulb. I tried to pull it out of the ceiling but it was tough.

Here is the answer I got from Cantalupi USA
Hello. In order to change the bulb on a David the light pulls straight out of the ceiling. Be careful not to get your fingers caught in the springs as the light comes out. Then with the light removed from the recessed area, on the back of the light the black plastic socket holder will unscrew revealing the bulb. Remove the old bulb and insert the new bulb. Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers as this will shorten the bulb life. Screw the black plastic socket back into the metal housing, pull the springs all the way back and reinsert the light. Please feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions.

I also have a bulb out an haven't been able to get the fixture to release. Does anyone have the secret t getting leverage to pull it down, fingers don't seem to work.

If they are the same 5" round light with silver or gold trim as mine you need to spin the trim either to the left or right to release it, not easy but it will turn. Bob

On mine, you DO NOT spin the small ones or the large one. They are all held in with a pair of spring loaded wire loops about 2" or 3" long.

The are strong springs and will hurt your fingers like a mouse trap if you aren't careful when removing them.

In my forward stateroom the two smaller light fixtures were pressed very deeply into the vinyl/foam headliner and were very difficult to remove. I used a rounded plastic scaper on both sides working slowly to avoid tearing the vinyl. Not easy, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier.

I've got a 2004 390 Sundancer that I just changed out two bulbs in the cabin overhead lights. Assuming you have the same housings they do just pry out with the springs on them. The problem with getting them out is that they are wedged tight in the hole in the headliner. You need to pry down on opposite sides of the outer ring at the same time since they are tight. The trick I used was to take two pieces of a thin plastic table mat to put between the headliner and outer light ring. I then used two of the plastic automotive 90 degree tools that are used to remove door panels just in case I would slide off the plastic table mat pieces. I didn't want to rip the head liner. Watch out for the springs, they will hit you hard. After you get the body out you'll see what the earlier post is telling you about taking the light apart to get to the bulb. Don't touch the new glass halegon bulbs directly with your fingers when you install them. It will most likely be a 5 or 10 watt halogen replacement bulb.

Try this method: Get two metal painters scrapers (the ones used to scrape paint rollers that are round on the end). Insert one on each side of the light fixture - twist your wrist to move the fixture off the ceiling. Once they clear with enough space, you can use your fingers.

My wife takes a spatula from the galley, slides it between the light & the headliner and pulls it out abit. then you can get your fingers behind it on both sides- watch that spring-it's strong! good luck.

Does anybody know where I can get a replacement spring? When I was removing the light in my shower one of the springs popped right back into the headliner.

Benestee,

I also have a 48 Sundancer and can confirm what the others have said - you pull straight down out of the ceiling. Each side has a little spring clamp that will snap down when you pull it down. Then, you have to turn it over and turn the black housing inside, once you see it up close that part is pretty intuitive. I would turn off the DC breaker for the salon lights for good measure. The bulbs I believe are all 10W from Sea Ray (in the 48DA salon) and they have two prongs. As someone else mentioned, don't touch the new bulb with your fingers. The first time I did this routine in my 48 I was hesitant to pull hard because I was afraid I would break it, but basically that's what you have to do (the springs are very industrial). Good luck!

Regards,
Capt. Jason

anyone know if they make a clear glass ( not sure if its glass or not) fixture cover instead of the frosted ones? we are switching all our lights to led and would like to replace glass covers with clear if possible

thanks for any input! ;) ;) ;)

hey dontworrybehappy,

not sure about those lenses, but i'm curious about where you purchased the led's and maybe the detail on the cabin ceiling led's!

thanks dennis

Try Flounder Pounder Marine for spare fixture parts. If not just contact Sea Ray and they can probably guide you. The replacement LED's can be purchased from superbrightleds.com.

I'm not converting all my bulbs to LEDs but does anyone know the model number and wattage of the bulbs in the ceiling fixtures in the salon? I already have it removed but I can't tell from looking at the bulb other than it has two pins. I'm thinking I could pick one up at an auto supply store if I know the correct model bulb.

I assume it is the same but I am new here so I will write my question. I am a new Sea Ray owner and just purchased an 09 310 Sundancer. Is it correct for this boat, that to remove the 6 inch fixture over the stove to replace the bulb you just pull straight down? I read something about turning the fixture and do not want to break something. Thanks, RF

Welcome to CSR you'll learn alot here -

The fixture will pull straight down and has springs on each side.
The bulbs will be 12V 10W or 20W that you can buy in the landscape lighting section of your local DIY store

2003 DA 420
I will concur that it's a very tight fit but I just pryed loose and pulled straight down using stiff scrapers. It's an easy job to change. G4 10 watt 12 volt on my boat.

Flat butter knife. Go slow on pulling it down. It is usually the rivets on each side that gets hung up.
