thx to this club I took everyone’s advice and decided to repair as you guys put it a ticking time bomb. Got 12 years out of them and replaced.
Thx all I owe you one!

WOW, never saw one that bad!! Good thing you did them now, salt water boat??

I think you only got 10 years out of them. The last 2 years they've just been waiting to kill your engine. They probably should have been done a couple years ago. I would consider myself lucky.

Oh wow you poor salt water buggers I've read over and over on the necessity of replacing at 5 to 7 year intervals and last year examined mine when I changed all engine hoses belts butterfly valves and exhaust tubes . Good clean cold freshwater must be good for them because at 30 years old this year mine are mint. I imagine if I were salt water I would be looking at a full closed system because the above scenario and or high dollar maintenance scares the crap outa me.

Yikes! Always boated in freshwater - I have never touched a manifold or riser on any boat I have owned.

Boating in salt is like a night and day difference. The smell of the air ,tides , current, shifting shoals, and the list goes on is well worth the price of admission and then some.

You dodged a bullet. If you replace with OEM Mercruiser and make a point of changing them out every 5 years you should be good to go.

I get that for sure having been a gulf islander Hornby and Gabriola for 20 years and living a few of those on a 100ft wooden boat with a big old gardner 8 cyl and a blow boat in gulfport Florida for a few years . Those boats did not have the issues of cost replacing major integral cooling components though..

Funny you posted this Deerock, my mechanic assessed my new to me 2006 320 DA and he said the manifolds, risers and elbows look to be factory original. That would be 13 years old..

That's bad but mine were worse. Check this out, the tip of the elbow broke off and was lodged in the exhaust tube. Needed a chisel and hammer to dislodge it. I had the boat for 3 years so who knows how long it was like this.

So I just replaced exhaust manifolds, 3" risers, elbows. It sat for a week with the parts removed, and boat is on a lift. I'm saying this because now it wont crank. Engine turned a few degrees then stopped. Batteries fully charged. Seems like water-lock to me. How would water get into the engine? Through the exposed exhaust ports? Ideas?

Pull the plugs and crank it over to get the water out of the cylinders.

Then spray some lube into the cylinders to prevent rust.

No replies needed until you get his done.

Go get it done ASAP.

The salty (and breathtakingly beautiful) B.C. coast calls you and you know it. You dream of it. You can never forget it. :p
