I do as well....a really big shiny one. My wife likes driving it as much as she did the Porsche.i have a pickup truck too..........
I drive from Michigan to Indianapolis like its my job... Actually it is my job.... I put a camera facing forward and rear facing camera... Not to protect me... Just because I have seen some crazy shit... And I want to capture it and have it be in one of those Utube videos.i had an interesting experience yesterday while driving to work...it was 6:30 AM and i was driving my Porsche Boxster for the first time this year since it was going to be 72* and sunny later in the day....i was on an open stretch of a 4 lane highway about 2 miles from home going between 55-60 mph in the right hand lane.....it was still dark at this time....
all of a sudden out of nowhere something slammed into the back of the Porsche jolting me and the car forward violently....i looked in the rear view mirror and suddenly saw a pair of headlights come on that were taller than the car....there were no signs of any headlights prior to the impact.....so i immediately tried to slow down to pull off the road to see what had happened but the vehicle that hit me stayed in contact with the car and was pushing me....then it backed off slightly and rammed me a couple more times.....i was initially confused and dazed as my head jerked and hit the head rest of the seat pretty hard and i was not sure exactly what was going on....i was finally able to swerve to get off the road.....then i saw a black Ford F250 go flying by and speeding away from the scene.....i was not able to get a tag number but i did get a decent look at the truck in my headlights....
so i sat on the side of the road for a few mins to get my thoughts together....since i was so close to my home i drove the car back there and told my wife what had happened....
i spent the rest of the day filing police reports and insurance claims and getting my car towed to a reputable repair shop that handles high end cars....
the Sheriff is treating this as an 'assault' since it seems clear it was intentional....this was not a case of road rage....this happened on an open section of the 4 lane highway where the left hand lane was open if someone wanted to pass me.....
what in the hell is wrong with people these days?....

Regardless that this guy did a hit n run, you need to know how to operate your vehicle. So your on a 4 lane highway where I can assume in NC. the traveling speed is about 80 mph. So your in the granny lane doing 55 to 60. In that scenario I would be looking out the rear view as often as I would be looking out the windshield
I put a camera facing forward and rear facing camera... Not to protect me... Just because I have seen some crazy shit... And I want to capture it and have it be in one of those Utube videos.
People have lost their minds....I am now afraid of strangers..never engage with another driver... It's like a box of cracker jacks...you don't know what the prize is your going to get.
As a victim of a hit-and-run, I'm 1.5 years overdue to get cameras. Any advice?
I pursued the drunk who broadsided me without his lights on. Admittedly, I did so partly out of anger, but I also felt obligated to warn others on the road. The chances of him hitting someone or something else were very, very high. I trapped him at a dead-end street, with 5 police cars on their way. He was staggering drunk, in a borrowed car with a suspended license. My car was totaled, but insured and my deductible was covered. Now the fun starts as the subpoenas are rolling in to testify against him. The prelim exam last week ended early as he got belligerent with the judge and was hauled off to jail... That appears to be where this fine citizen belongs.
Smart thinking Cliff. It's extremely unfortunate but this is why we have insurance. It's not worth risking your safety. Plus, what would you do if he stopped and was aggressive?for a split second i thought about chasing the truck down if for no other reason than to get a tag number....the Porsche could have easily caught him quickly on the open highway...but i then thought if he is drunk or on drugs and stupid enough to ram me for no reason he might be stupid enough to do even greater harm like shooting if i confronted him....i have the phone number of the officer in charge of the case....i travel this road every day....i hope to be able to get a tag number some day while driving my truck so he won't recognize me....

I would venture to say no structural damage from the photo, thats 47 years as a body tech talking though. Some people just are not wired right cliff.Hopefully he wasnt on his way to do some real damage to others, although he will likely get there soon enough anyway.
just spoke to the repair shop....their initial visual inspection agreed with your assessment that the repairs would be mostly sheet metal and paint....but unfortunately when they tore the car down last Friday afternoon the found damage to the frame....this shop has a very good reputation for working on luxury cars and are certified in many different brands but not Porsche....i am going to have the car moved to a certified Porsche shop since there is structural damage....just hope the cost of the repairs does not make the insurance company total the car....
Jim T,
If you have the name of the certified Porsche shop in Hickory i would appreciate it.
