What is wrong with people....

Until you posted the picture I thought you had a Trump 2020 sticker on your car :D

i have a pickup truck too.....;).....
I do as well....a really big shiny one. My wife likes driving it as much as she did the Porsche.

Cliff, I understand your disappointment and frustration on your car. When we owned ours it was babied....not a garage queen but well taken care of. Seeing that damage makes me ill.

I would venture to say no structural damage from the photo, thats 47 years as a body tech talking though. Some people just are not wired right cliff.Hopefully he wasnt on his way to do some real damage to others, although he will likely get there soon enough anyway.

Cliff,

There are only two Porsche certified body shops in the Charlotte area. I recently had the front end of my 991.1 Turbo resprayed by Hendrick's so called "high end collision center." Total disaster. Don't use them. The other shop is in Hickory. I have no experience with them except to say they have to be better than Hendrick.

Make sure you do have it repaired at a certified Porsche body shop Cliff. You probably know to do that. To go non-certified is to destroy your selling price when you change cars.

Phoenix police picked up a suspect who shot a 10 year old girl, killing her, in another road rage incident. A camera some distance from where the shooting took place showed the shooter's pickup truck following the victim's car.

The police located the truck and impounded it. The truck's wheels had been changed out to disguise it. The shooter, a Hispanic man in his 30's is being held on $1,000,000 bail.

Regardless that this guy did a hit n run, you need to know how to operate your vehicle. So your on a 4 lane highway where I can assume in NC. the traveling speed is about 80 mph. So your in the granny lane doing 55 to 60. In that scenario I would be looking out the rear view as often as I would be looking out the windshield

i had an interesting experience yesterday while driving to work...it was 6:30 AM and i was driving my Porsche Boxster for the first time this year since it was going to be 72* and sunny later in the day....i was on an open stretch of a 4 lane highway about 2 miles from home going between 55-60 mph in the right hand lane.....it was still dark at this time....

all of a sudden out of nowhere something slammed into the back of the Porsche jolting me and the car forward violently....i looked in the rear view mirror and suddenly saw a pair of headlights come on that were taller than the car....there were no signs of any headlights prior to the impact.....so i immediately tried to slow down to pull off the road to see what had happened but the vehicle that hit me stayed in contact with the car and was pushing me....then it backed off slightly and rammed me a couple more times.....i was initially confused and dazed as my head jerked and hit the head rest of the seat pretty hard and i was not sure exactly what was going on....i was finally able to swerve to get off the road.....then i saw a black Ford F250 go flying by and speeding away from the scene.....i was not able to get a tag number but i did get a decent look at the truck in my headlights....

so i sat on the side of the road for a few mins to get my thoughts together....since i was so close to my home i drove the car back there and told my wife what had happened....

i spent the rest of the day filing police reports and insurance claims and getting my car towed to a reputable repair shop that handles high end cars....

the Sheriff is treating this as an 'assault' since it seems clear it was intentional....this was not a case of road rage....this happened on an open section of the 4 lane highway where the left hand lane was open if someone wanted to pass me.....

what in the hell is wrong with people these days?....

I drive from Michigan to Indianapolis like its my job... Actually it is my job.... I put a camera facing forward and rear facing camera... Not to protect me... Just because I have seen some crazy shit... And I want to capture it and have it be in one of those Utube videos.
People have lost their minds....I am now afraid of strangers..never engage with another driver... It's like a box of cracker jacks...you don't know what the prize is your going to get.

That sucks. Last year my daughter bought my mothers 'old' car from her for work and to save miles on her lifted Jeep. The car is a 2007 Chrysler Sebring Limited with 40,000 miles on it. Mom bought it new and it stayed in the garage. Daughter bought it for $5000 and just put liability insurance on it. A week later she was at a red light and a guy rear ended her and pushed her into the car in front of her. The guy was driving his girlfriends car and he had no license. He gave a Liberty Mutual insurance card. Well my daughter worked for LM at the time so ran it and found it had been cancelled a year earlier for non-payment. She tried contacting the driver and/or his girlfriend and got no response for about a week. Finally the lady answered and said she had new insurance from a different company. Daughter gets a rental car and the peoples insurance is paying for it. She had to make a business trip to FL so dropped the rental car at the airport and came back and somehow the insurance company finds out and started lecturing my daughter about not returning the car before the trip then getting it back when she got back. My daughter snapped back saying she was a licensed insurance agent and knows her rights...lol. So the body shop stopped adding the damage when it hit $5000. Daughter pleaded with them to do what they could to fix it because she wouldn't be able to find another 40,000 mile car for $5000 that was spotless. They ended up getting some used parts and fixed it. The airbag didn't go off and no structural damage but both bumpers (inner and outer) needed replaced and the right rear 1/4 panel was bent a little so they replaced that and the trunk lid. The rear body piece where the trunk latch goes was also pushed forward a couple inches so they had to replace that. They had her car for about 2 months when it was all said and done but it was a big headache for her.
Can't understand why people can't just follow rules and be responsible. Hope they find the guy that hit you. I know with my temper I would have chased the guy (I have done that before when I guy almost ran me off the road....lol). But I also used to be in law enforcement and always have a weapon on me. What you did was probably smarter but I have been known to do dumb things from time to time....lol

Very curious as to what his motives were

That sucks that you baby got whacked. My Challenger got hit at a car show a few years back parked at a car show but a young punk kid who was a City employee driving a Gator. Car got fixed but wil forever show up as damaged on a Car Fax report. That is what is going to suck for you.

you know what bud?.....i would appreciate it if you do not read or reply to any of my threads in the future.....i have never liked the smart ass attitude that you demonstrate in most of your post....to imply this is my fault for driving and slightly exceeding the speed limit is about as stupid as anything i have ever heard....

As a victim of a hit-and-run, I'm 1.5 years overdue to get cameras. Any advice?

I pursued the drunk who broadsided me without his lights on. Admittedly, I did so partly out of anger, but I also felt obligated to warn others on the road. The chances of him hitting someone or something else were very, very high. I trapped him at a dead-end street, with 5 police cars on their way. He was staggering drunk, in a borrowed car with a suspended license. My car was totaled, but insured and my deductible was covered. Now the fun starts as the subpoenas are rolling in to testify against him. The prelim exam last week ended early as he got belligerent with the judge and was hauled off to jail... That appears to be where this fine citizen belongs.

for a split second i thought about chasing the truck down if for no other reason than to get a tag number....the Porsche could have easily caught him quickly on the open highway...but i then thought if he is drunk or on drugs and stupid enough to ram me for no reason he might be stupid enough to do even greater harm like shooting if i confronted him....i have the phone number of the officer in charge of the case....i travel this road every day....i hope to be able to get a tag number some day while driving my truck so he won't recognize me....

It's true - sheetmetal isn't worth a bullet! My guy actually ran from me twice, so the first segment I wanted his plate number and to warn others that he's driving dark. By the time he stopped and ran again, I was operating on adrenaline instead of brain cells. It could've ended badly.

That's where a camera comes in... With a dashcam, we could get close enough to let the cam record the plate #, and then back off.

Smart thinking Cliff. It's extremely unfortunate but this is why we have insurance. It's not worth risking your safety. Plus, what would you do if he stopped and was aggressive?

That truck could have been stollen and that clown was taking it on a joy ride, harassing you. Just glad you're safe.

just spoke to the repair shop....their initial visual inspection agreed with your assessment that the repairs would be mostly sheet metal and paint....but unfortunately when they tore the car down last Friday afternoon the found damage to the frame....this shop has a very good reputation for working on luxury cars and are certified in many different brands but not Porsche....i am going to have the car moved to a certified Porsche shop since there is structural damage....just hope the cost of the repairs does not make the insurance company total the car....

Jim T,
If you have the name of the certified Porsche shop in Hickory i would appreciate it.

The person probably still doesn't know they hit you. Drugs - Alcohol - combination of . . . who knows. But certainly impaired on something.

I have 2 dash cams. A Garmin (I think model 45). I paid about $135 for it at Best Buy but the quality is good, shows GPS coordinates and speed. This one is in my wifes car. My daughter bought me one for my truck. Its a generic one from Amazon that was about $50 but the quality is very good. It doesn't show speed or coordinates though. I cannot find a brand name on it anywhere, not even the box....lol. But the video quality is good on both. My daughter sorted from highest reviews when she bought mine.
