The seal for the windshield vent on my 1997 330DA is looking aged and I would like to replace it. Does anyone have any easy solutions or a part number for this handy? I have searched Flounder Pounder with no luck so far. Hav also read several other threads that do not really come up with any sure solutions.

The Taylor gaskets page is out of commission these days it seems. But, hopeful to find some sort of new solution. Thanks for any help.

I have seen a few people on here go to Home Depot and buy self stick door insulation to replace.

I did mine a couple years ago from Taylor made. You have to go thru Colony. They have the part number and order it and taylor made fabricates it. Mine was around $250.

I found the remaining seal that I bought. I still don't know where I got it.

But I've got about 12 feet left over. I'd be happy to mail you both 6 feet. That would give you plenty to try it, mess it up, and try again. ;)

Just PM me an address if you're interested.

Rob
You got a part number for that? I would like to get some too... thanks

I have some of that seal at home. I just don't know how you made that work. I imagine you probably used some adhesive to make two pieces together?

The search continues.

Hey Capt Will,

Yes, I got some Loctite vinyl glue from the local hardware store. I cut each piece just slightly long (about 1/4 inch) so that I could butt the ends together under slight pressure.
I did this late last summer, so I'm not sure how well it work for the long term, but so far so good. No leaks, no problem with the vent window sticking closed.

Best,

Rob

I purchased mine in Aug 2018 from MarineMax Baltimore. You can try them but just know this was for my window vent. They can double check size for you.

I may have a break in this case of marine manufacturing negligence (i.e. Taylor).

I am currently talking with a manufacture about this and they have some possibly promising news about the gasket. As soon as I hear back with conformation I will pass it on to this group. Thanks.

Have not heard an update since April 1 with no shipping update. FP Marine is having this gasket manufactured but because the the world pandemic it may be delayed. As soon as I hear back from them I will pass it along. Trust me, I really need this too. Mine was in seriously bad shape and I have removed it from the boat. So, if I do not have this by launch time I will have to tape it up and it will not be usable.

I have been told my numerous people that this (3M weatherstrip adhesive) was the best product to use for this project. I picked a tube up for about $10 (5 oz.) I have it ready and raring to go. Just waiting for some gasket to use it on.

The product number is 08008

villain, I heard back from Elliot Anderson with Baltimore Marine Max and he stated that the product is not in stock and they would have to order it and wouldn't know how long they would receive it until it was ordered. He also could not provide a photo of the gasket profile as I requested. He did provide the price of $128 plus shipping.

Can you provide any photos or at the very least let me know if this gasket was in fact the exact replacement? Also, how did it arrive? In one long piece that you had to cut yourself or was it already pre-cut to fit?

The gasket was an exact fit and it was already precut to fit. It didn't take but maybe two weeks tops after i ordered it to get it. I'm sure any Marine Max can get for you. The P/N I provided was for my window. Not sure if its the same window you have or not so if you go this route just double check.

UPDATE:

-Marine Max- Baltimore is working with me to possibly find out if the part number that villain provided is the same one used for my 1997 330. They do not know the size/dimensions nor can they produce a profile photo of the gasket material. Not even a description of the material. I will not pull the trigger on that purchase until I am 100% certain this is it.

-FP Marine has confirmed the profile and gasket information and provided dimension confirmation. Unfortunately, because of the current status of the world it is taking so much more time to get the product shipped from overseas. Yesterday he told me that they are looking at another 45 days until this is in stock.

I will more than likely wait for FP Marine to stock this unless Marine Max comes through with this, but I am doubting it. I hope to launch the boat within a couple weeks so I guess I will have to tape up the glass/frame so water doesn't leak in in the meantime. This is such a ridiculous situation. Taylor should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting the products they make with parts. This is ONLY a 23 year old product that like all material exposed to weather and sun, WILL wear out and require replacement. Grrrr.

Have you talked to Taylor? … I have talked to them direct with regards to the gasket replacement and a cracked window on another boat....they were really helpful. They gave me everything I needed to order thru my dealer as they cant sell direct

Have you guys considered taking a piece of the old gasket to an automotive glass / window or RV shop to see if they have something that is similar or would work?

Thanks for the info. I was able to get someone from FP Marine to contact me. They said that they are expecting some of that material in around mid June. I sent them photos of existing and a print from Taylor Made for this Extruded Foam. I'll let you guys know what they say. If I strike out I am going to have a local foam extruder make this profile so it can be cut and clued to fit like OEM.

I have been speaking with Ken (FP Marine) and he is telling me the same things. He has confirmed with photos, the profile and it looks to be dead on. He claims to have me on the list as well to contact when in stock.

I installed it with the closed end toward the window but the other way sounds interesting. I have a little bit of leakage with heavy rain and it gets more broken in to the window position and leaks very little now. If I put a little silicone in the corners it would probably be perfect. Let me know how it works out. Made sure you use the Loctite recommended for the corners to glue foam rubber together.

It has been well over the 45 days since Ken @ FP Marine said he would have it in stock and no word as of yet. I emailed him 2 weeks ago and have heard no response back. Really sad how this CV19 has just put the brakes on so much of everything.

I know. Sounds like it may be coming from China which would explain the delay. I sold the boat but that replacement I did really looks factory and worked fairly well. Please keep me posted as I would still look to by some for the new owners. Good luck.

Can you put me in contact with the person/place that you had this made or purchased out right? At this point in the game I need a better solution than what I did. I basically put some weather stripping from Home Depot as temporary and it leaks even with a light rain.

Yours looks fantastic. I would be willing to do that as well.

Here is what I bought to make mine as in previous photos.
https://www.steelerubber.com/search?q=83-0137-73

Used a razor to miter cut the joining corners. Be sure to purchase the Loctite glue they sell. It is super strong and make sure to use rubber gloves because you will get stuck like I did lol.....

Also, I talked to Ken Gearin on the OEM foam rubber that they have on order. I just emailed him again to see if he knows anything about their order.

We were just talking about replacing oursxthis weekend, great timing. I looks like you replaced the seal at the bottom of the windshield as well. What did you use there?
