Starboard engine just started making almost like a gasping sound. Additionally, the idle is wavering - not holding steady. Took an hour long ride today at various speeds and boat ran fine - no alarms, no issues. I connected it to laptop with Diacom software and no codes and the IAC duty cycle is wavering from 15% to 35% at 650rpm. Port motor duty cycle is btwn 22 and 32% at 650RPM (no noises or rpm wavering on this motor).

Haven't ck'd the IAC muffler (I change them every spring) but it's not just the rushing air sound, there's also the wavering idle issue. Do I need to replace the IAC valve? I have a spare that I bought at NAPA years ago. It's properly cross-referenced and the only difference seems to be that it's not painted black.

Holy crap! When I bought my NAPA 6 yrs ago as a spare it was $60 and the Merc was $99. Now they're $150 and $185 respectively. Are these things made of rare precious metals? Inflation, tariffs?!

I just checked mercruiserparts.com, 169, yikes. Checked amazon, found the above mentioned standard motor part for 39$, of course, the mercruiser “muffler”, which is in the purchased with list, and is nothing more that a square piece of some type of foam, smaller than the cube in a pair if dice, is 10$, The material to make 100 of these is probably less than a dollar.

Pulled the flame arrestor and the IAC filter was gone. Just gone. I put a new one in there about 28 hours ago. Anyway, that explained the noise. New muffler quieted it right down.

Installed the IAC valve I had laying around and that took care of the hunting idle.

The Napa IAC came with the Felpro gasket shown. Much smaller holes than the Merc. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I spent the $2.40 for the Merc gasket and did not install the Felpro.

Let me know how it works out. May get some at that price to keep as spares.

No one has commented on the IAC muffler. Is that merc only?

I could let you know how it worked out now. Had my starboard IAC fail just as i was pulling into Northport. Started smelling a burning smell and my smartcraft alarm started going off IAC fail. Sooo glad I bought a spare 4 weeks ago, who would have known. I replaced it and all good. Buying another right now.Just came one today in 4-6 footers...Crazy when you go down in a wave and only see water around you the height of your top of windshield!

Ordered another one from ebay. Some aftermarket one - came with a gasket (same one as the OEM). Installed it on port engine and stowed the functioning (12 yo original) as a spare. It now has about 4 hrs on it and all's well.

Do you happen to have a link? I am looking to add some spares. I see a bunch on Ebay and they all look pretty much the same - and I assume they are.

Mine was a plain white box. I doubt there's any source for these gizmos is on this side of the world, even the "Mercruiser" ones.

I’m having an a Iac issue I believe. One motor stalls after starting sometimes. Sometimes almost stalls shifting in and out of gear. Just wondering how these non mercruiser parts are working out for u? Ask which one should I buy? Thanks
