- The main concern of government leaders has been the inability to meet hospital demand. This could be due to beds, equipment, staff (absolute or as a result of unavailability due to illness), or any limiting resource. I have friends and neighbours on the front line. This has been a proven, legitimate concern (although I don't buy that it is with Omicron necessarily...but politicians are cowards. I am curious and hopeful the Australia experiment works out!).
- Right now,
the vast majority of those hospitalized are unvaccinated. This is a key statement to be able to assert to make the rest of the argument make sense. Because it is so important, detractors will say "this is a lie" and "you can't trust the data." They will say "from COVID" or "with COVID". They will say "follow the money". They will misquote Internet articles that purport to support their case, and misrepresent data they don't fully understand (
@alnav and others have done a great job setting this straight on numerous occasions).
The reality is this is a true statement. I don't want it to be, but it is accurate across the globe right now, it is supported by local data, and also by anecdotal evidence.
It is simply the truth.
For me, anyone that doesn't accept this simple fact is grasping and in denial. Nothing personal; it's just too obvious.
