Relatively new to this forum and have been reading the posts about water in the center section.
When we bought the boat (88 390 EC, 3208 Cats) last October it was bone dry. Had it out of the water Nov-Jan 19. Splashed at the end of January and in a Marina since. Just opened the center hatch to rearrange things for storage and what do I find? Yep, about 2" of water in the center section. The fresh water tank had been replaced by previous owner with an 80-85 gallon poly tank. No evidence of leaking from it. No damp headliners, mysterious water trails. Dry.
I was just wondering if you ever figured your mystery source. There is some indication that the water is salt water so I'm really confused. Getting ready to cut access holes to drain and remove foam. Also wondering if you treated anything with Bora Care or similar?
Any insights you have to pass on would be appreciated.

Cockpit needs a total rebuild. I dont even want to think about the fuel tanks and engines. You just went through the process. What would you pay for a boat like that? I probably pissed him off but he asked for an opinion and I just happen to be the worlds leading expert on restoring a 390EC. :->

I have an '88 390 with the 3208 Cats. I have a question for the world's leading authority on restoring the EC. When we bought the boat it was bone dry and surveyed above average. Just recently checked the center compartment and found water in there. Already has a poly tank.
No ports yet. Everything (shower, AC, etc.) seems to be draining properly and no apparent leaks. Getting ready to cut ports and remove water. Simple evaporation test suggests the water is salt, not fresh.
Question is: Should I pour Bora Care into the water that's there and let it set for awhile or just go ahead and remove as much water and foam as I can? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nice looking, unmolested, well kept boat. It doesn't have any electronics to speak of and it appears to ride bow high that may mean it hasn't the common trim tab upgrades done to it. Ask specifically about the water tank and of course any available maintenance history. Optional engine survey with compression and leak down tests. I didn't notice how many hours are on the main engines in the listing.

There are 707 hours on port and 727 on starboard. The generator is reading 4208.

That would be an awful lot of work and most likely wouldn't look and/or function well when done. I preferred to fabricate and replace the dash panels and add a NavPod to accommodate the 12" plotter. I like the way it came out and gives an updated look to existing dash design.

So the 1988 searay express cruiser bathroom carpet is no more! Had to pull it up becuase it was just dirty and smelled.

I would like to replace it with some sort of tile. Either peel and press or trowel it on. Any suggestions, warnings, pitfalls?

I did notice too that the floor is a bit spongy but may have found the cause for that

Me too! I have been looking at it and not sure yet how to get the sending unit out. The people at the marina said they would have to cut a hole in the deck, pull it out, put in the new one and then patch the hole!
Not sure yet that I want to go that way so I continue to look
