What is your next boating move?

Moving up, down or out?

2 to 4 years ago it seemed everyone I talked to was interested in getting a larger boat.

Today some still talk this way however more talk about holding where they are, downsizing or exiting boating.

To make matters worse, I don’t know of any fresh blood (new boaters) this year. All the people we met have been boaters.

It’s possible my little corner of the world is skewed so I thought I’d ask.

OK, so here goes. It’s your money, you’re not getting a Obama hand out for the boat purchase nor for the upkeep. What’s your next move?

Although we are very happy with our current boat once I get a bit closer to retirement we are planning on a bigger boat. Hopefully something with a flybridge...

That sounds close to our plan as well, combined with a move to a longer boating season. More along the lines of small house large boat kind of thing.

I'd like to move to the 36DB or an older 400DB (1998 and up). The 36 really has my interest right now...should be an interesting boat-show season!

Went with next boat same size. Actually what I would really like is to just use the boat we have more than we do. 5 times to the lake this summer & that is one more time than last year.

We just bought the current boat but are in love with the 310's/340's. We put our name on the waiting list for the slips in our town marina that can hold a 310 or a 340 and have been told that we should expect to receive the slip in 10+ years! Plenty of time to enjoy the current boat and to save the money for the next one!

Moving to a bigger boat. 320da - 340da. We started boating 3 years ago. In that time frame we have had 3 friends get into boating. My wife and I just need to decide what both of us want in our new or used boat.

Presentation, I would love to get a larger boat! However, that means we can no longer trailer.... would have to be married to a marina.... etc. I really like the 330, but I can't justify the extra $$$ and arguably, our boat fits my family perfectly. (Me, wife, toy dog, 14 year-old, 18-year old away for college.) I can't seem to talk myself into a 330 or even a 310. : )

What are you thinking? Give us your opinion!

We plan on enjoying the one we have for the next few years, but then upsizing to a 320/340, then I think we're done (he says now)

I am hoping to go to the 28 or 32 range in the next year or so. But then again who knows where we will be in that time frame. Hopefully in a much better economy. We can all dream, right...

We picked up the 380DA this year (repo) and are EXTREMELY pleased with it. We were looking in the 320/340 range but the deal could not be beat. I feel that we are where we would have been in 4-5 years (size wise). Best part it was the wifes idea to move up! Just wish we had a summer in Chicago this year, but there is always the hope for global warming (am I missing something?).

Next boat will be a little smaller, a Sea Ray day-cruiser again. Will use the trade $$ for waterfront property on the OH River.

We may move up a few feet but in the same style boat. That will not be for 5 or 6 years.

Lateral but away from a bridge. Similar LOA or slightly larger in order to keep a stall shower and solid stateroom doors. Would have to be a 370/380DA...

Oh, and I think I'm going to need a boat with a large enough cabin door to get the damn fridge out (my engines are a bitch to remove but the fridge is a piece of cake!)

Status Quo for as long as I can see! The retirement years might require a switch to a displacement hull like a Grand Banks or an American Tug. That is so far in the future it doesn't even count! I am going to the boat shows to check them out because I'll be able to afford the 2009 model 20 years from now!

We were very lucky with our first purchase, it suits us fine, plenty of room, for 2 old folks, trailerable (if thats a word). It is a SEA RAY, so it will last forever, if properly cared for. At this time no planes to get rid of, or up grade, down grade, or go newer.
