I’ve posted this before. We had similar problems. I made a step extension. We use it all the time. I tried to find something on line without success so this was my solution.

I made one many, many years ago... similar in function to Sting's... but nowhere near as nice. I just looped a piece of rope through a 2" piece of PVC

CLR Marine makes extensions, though. They've been making them for quite a while - USA company, too.

 

Funny you say that. That was my first version except I used swingset chain instead of rope. Wrapped the PVC in 3M nonslip tape. I was always concerned it would break. We have a few heavy crew members😉. I thought an upgrade was in order.
