Kohler Generator - CO4 Error Shutdown (HELP)

I am back again with a newly formed question. My Kohler 5kw generator keeps shutting down after about 20 seconds of running. I am getting the following error on the digital readout ‘CO4’. When I look this up in the manual… it is telling me that carbon monoxide is present and I should check for any CO alarms going off, move my vessel away from other potentially polluting engines or check my exhaust on the generator. When I first had this problem, my cabin CO alarm was reaching end-of-life and was beeping intermittently. I thought maybe this was causing the generator to shut down. I have replaced the alarm but still having the same generator issue.

Has anyone else had this problem with the same code and found the issue? I'd like to see if I can fix as myself rather than pay $250 to the mechanic. I sense this is a somewhat straightforward issue but I can't seem to find anyone who can guide me down the right path. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give

From the service manual for a 5ECD...

"A CO4 error Fault code is displayed if the presence of CO is detected because of the time-weighted average presence of CO. Activates the CO cabin alarms."

"There is a CO sensor module on generator sets with serial number 2085259 and later. The CO sensor module is located behind the ADC 2100. Replace the CO sensor module every two years."

I was getting the "CO5" alarm on the same generator. Just alarm and not shutting down. Replaced the sensor module that JimG is talking about and the alarm went away. Its a little circuit board and what "looks like" a AA battery attached to it. It is located behind the control panel on the genset. about a $200 part but easy to change. Kohler recommends every 2 years but the Rep. I talked said you can get more time than that out of it...
