Maybe try Woody's wax on the stainless and polish on the glass

Have you personally used this, Rick? If so, good results? I've got a couple similar spots and wasn't sure how to clean them. Maybe I'll give this a try. Thanks for the link!

Try using Whink....a product sold in grocery stores near laundry soap fror removing rust stains from clothing. It is a staple on my boat. I also use a product from Lowes or Home Depot called Rust-aid, sold in the paint dept used for removing rust or hard water stains from where a sprinkler sprays a wall. Both are cheap and effective.

 

I use Super Iron-out. Really cheap, effective with rust stains and available about anywhere.

I wonder what's going on under that fitting. Maybe time for a replacement/re-bed. Those rivets could be easily replaced, make sure they're stainless. The stains will come back now that things are ate up.

 

you want to use something with oxalic acid to remove the rust...as was mentioned before 'Rust Aid' works well...i like to also use 'Bar Keeper's Friend' which is a powder similar to Comet or Ajax....you can make a paste out of the BKF and a little water and apply the paste to the rust stain...let it sit for a while and if needed take a stiff bristle brush to the stain.....this has worked well for me in the past....by trial and error over the past few years i have found that a combination of BKF and 'Simple Green' along with a stiff bristle brush can remove just about any stain in the gelcoat, at least the stains i have encountered....but this will remove any wax from the gelcoat so you would have to re-wax the affected area....

My boat has the same issue. Really pisses me off that Searay decided to use chromed pop rivits on stainless steel rails. You need to drill out the rivets and replace them first, or you will be chasing your tail. I have removed the stains with the West Marine brand of stain remover. Works fine but the problem comes back.
