Garboard green wire... does it go to the Mercathode System?

Hi, I am replacing the Drain / Garboard on my 98 Sundancer and there is a bonding wire attached. Does this green wire go to the Mercathode System?. Since I removed the Mercathode system and replaced with a Zinc, It would make the installation a lot easier if not needed,

It's part of the bonding system on the boat. All your thru hulls will have a green wire attached and they will all go to a common terminal block somewhere on the boat. DO NOT omit this wire or your new garboard will be eaten up very quickly.

Are you sure you need to replace the garboard drain? It's pretty rare for those to go bad.

Is there a particular reason you are replacing the Mercathode? That system provides more protection than a normal anode. Granted it's more expensive to replace if it goes bad... is that the main reason?
