Engine hatch lifting trouble

We are 3 days into ownership and are still getting our feet wet. Our engine hatch lift is not responding. It has done it twice now. Is there a rookie mistake we are making in it not working, like a switch that needs to be flipped or lock somewhere that I am missing to unhook? Hopefully its not a bad switch and just us missing something. Any help would be appriciated.

Here's what happened to me this weekend. I go to raise the hatch and "nothing". I'm like, "uh oh". So, I'm down there looking at the fuse panel for 5 minutes. Then double check everything again, still nothing. My daughter points out I had the transom door shut and latched. I'm like, what an idiot...it takes a 15 year old to point this out to me (which I knew quite well, but spaced)

On the 38DA the transom door must be closed for the hatch to raise.

I had the same problem last summer on two occasions. The first time I was just trying to put some cleaners back in my storage area in the bilge so I just left it and came back the next day and the lift worked. The next time I could not get it to lift at all. I checked all fuses, power at the switch etc.

Finally gave up and opened the little safety oval and reached in and pulled the pin in the hydraulic shaft and lifted the hatch by hand (with help and a line on the finger pull). A couple of taps on the cylinder with a hammer, (best tool in the Sea Ray bag) and away it went. Since then it runs well (so far). Go figure!!

That stupid transom door interlock gets me at least once a month. First thing I look at when I hit the hatch lift switch and hear nothing. Beats tearing the door off the hatch, though.

If your transom door is open and the hatch still will not raise up, you might have to remove the deck plate under the transom seat and pull the pin securing the hatch to the lift ram. Then get a couple of helpers and manually lift open the hatch. I strongly recommend having a small piece of wood (I use a small piece of 2x4) close by so that when you get the hatch open just a little, you can push it under the edge to keep it from slamming shut on you. It will also allow you to get a second grip without smashing your fingers.

Once you are in there, look for 2 small wires coming down from the port side back by the transom door. These are the wires for the magnetic switch that senses when the door is closed. I believe that there is a plug on those 2 wires. You can check that connection for tightness or corrosion. I think the magnetic switch closes when you open the door. Try jumpering that plug to see if the lift starts working. If jumpering it works, test it by holding a magnet near the "dot" behind the door...
