Hi -
I'm a new owner of a 2001 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer. I like the boat but am a little dismayed at how many things break and aren't designed well.
For instance the boat has a set of 2008 Great Lakes Boat Top side and visor curtains in it. However they don't fit any more because the vinyl glass shrank. Great lakes is having a nice 20% off sale right now, so I either need to order from them because thats the best there is, or I need to come up with a better plan. That's where you come in.
Does anybody have recommendations for better boat canvas? Here's what I don't like about the stock canvas:
1. It takes forever to zip in the curtains when it starts raining. By the time the curtains are zipped in the rain has stopped and I'm soaked. It would be nice to have something that is quicker to deploy.
2. Since the vinyl has shrunk, they are very hard to zip in and I can only partially zip them
3. I can't see out of the vinyl glass well enough to drive.
I doesn't make sense I should have to buy new canvas every 7 years because the vinyl shrinks.
Is there a way to take the existing curtains and replace the vinyl with some other material that I can actually see through and in turn with new unshrunk glass they would fit?
I've been reading about Markolan, stratoglass, ez2cy and other materials, but there is a lot to read. I figured I'd make this post while I continue my reading ...
Thanks for any help,
Steve
