Alarm, what do can it be?

Ok, out on the boat today, mostly docking and practicing. Take her out and get it on plane and about 10 minutes an alarm goes off. I get it down to the starboard engine. temp is normal, oil pressure is normal, and drive fluid it good. I disconneted the drive fluid sensor, no go.

Beep Beep then about a minute +, beep beep, etc...

I swap the temp sensor from the other engine, nada.

the alarm sounds right after I crank the engine over, then a minute + pause and beep beep.

I limp back to the marina just to be on the safe side and everything looks, sounds, runs normal. I let it sit for a bit, no difference. I dove in and checked all the water intakes as best as I could feel around and everything seems clean. (by the way, the water is cold as hell)

I play around with the drive fluid sensor because according to the manual, that's the only alarm that has an intermitent beep. Not sure if playing around did it but at idle the alarm sounds twice and then stops. I rev the engine up to about 2000 and the alarm sounds again at every minute plus.

I'm stumped. Any clues? should I just unplug it and enjoy the weekend? or maybe something I need to address now.

Ok, found the other thread.

Knock sensor. neutral switch, lower unit lube level sensor.

where do I find these???? :smt021

I don't think it's the neutral switch because the alarm sound when it's in gear, but I may be wrong here.

Lower unit Lube level sensor..... where is this at?

do I even have knock sensors?

been reading through the repair manual this morning and there seems to be several other sensors that will generate a 2 beep alarm.

throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, knock sensor, manifold absolute pressure sensor, probably more that I didn't see yet. :smt021

But from what I gather there are 3 alarms on the 4.3 mpi. continuous is heat and oil pressure. I jumped the lube level sensor and it's a repeating beep. the other sensors generate a code on the ecm which then generates a 2 beep alarm. so it looks like I have to hook up a computer to see which code was generated to find out which sensor triggered. Not sure if swaping sensors will clear the code on the ecm or if it will just keep generating a 2 beep until the code is cleared.

(edit)
Ok, found the code log and resulting alarm listing in the repair manual. Holy bat beep. there are about 50 codes that will generate a 2 beep alarm. could be as simple as a loose connection but I'm going to have to have a computer hooked up to find the code and what set it off. :smt101

Since you recently purchased the boat, try and sweet talk the service manger into checking which code tripped and clear it if it's nothing to worry about. My MM dealer has done this for me for free if they happen to have another service call at my marina.

I had the same problem on my 8.1's. I was the O2 sensor. I had to just disconnect it until it could be replaced. The wrench indicated they were high failure items, but Searay would not replace them until they failed. I don't know if your motor is the same, but I don't think they vary that much in the Mercruiser alarm systems.
