I suggest you find 480DB dedicated thread. We had intensive discussion there on this subject. There were some suggestions on the workaround.

For those times when you're away from shore power and don't want to use the genset, install an inverter and batteries that are dedicated to it.

I have a 4,000 watt inverter and three huge batteries (no, I don't know what size they are, but they're BIG) that get charged when I'm on shore power and/'or the genset. I use the inverter power for everything that's 110V except the stove and the reverse cycle heat and air units.

Has any one installed a drop in grille in the cockpit of their AC? We thinking of putting in the bar area where the ice bucket (never used) and trash lid, the logical spot. Looked around and can't find a manufacturer that makes one, I know they make them since it is being offered on newer boats. Any thoughts/

I fixed this issue on my 420AC with an inverter. The 3kw inverter and 6 AGM Lifeline batteries fit under the salon sofa like this:

I wired the inverter like the attached design (before and after) and I moved the AC Converter (Charger) across to the other side of the inverter so the inverter didn't try to charge the main batteries. The way the AC panel is laid out really lends itself to an easy modification. You will see what i mean if you take a look. And, of course, the sofa is right next to the AC panel so the 12V cable runs are quite short.

Here is the wiring diagram to show the new layout:

PM me if you need any more details. It all works seamlessly! And, with some 700Amp.hours, for quite a while.

I took it a little further. I installed an inverter/charger under the bridge seating along with two 4D AGM batteries. This is located directly above the main power panel to wiring was easy. Then I added two 155 watt solar panels to the setup. Can run all of the 110 volt needs with this.
Given mine 420AC is a 2001. I am now considering replacing the fridge and freezer with the Novacool F5810 & R5812. Have seen them in another 420AC and they are a great fit and AC/DC to boot.
