Hi Guys,

My Clarion player (see image...middle unit) will not display the LCD screen. I reset the unit (with a paperclip to the reset button) but that unfortunately has reset all the preset channels. Since I can't read anything off the display, I can't set up the channels again. The unit is effectively useless.

Anything I should try before consigning it to Davey Jones locker?

Terry

PS: The unit above is a DVD palyer connected to the TV and the unit below is multi changer CD unit.

I believe that this is a CMD-5 receiver and they aren't cheap. If you contact Clarion, this unit should be covered under an inclusive price to repair. That route should be much less expensive than replacement. They should have a regional repair center close to NZ that you can contact via the web.

CMD4 sorry. Here is the Australian service number I found online:

Telephone: 61 3 8558 1115
Facsimile: 61 3 9551 0377
Business Hours: Monday -Friday 9am-5pm

Could be worth the repair price. Sorry for the bad post on the model number.

Thanks Guys. Most helpful. There is a remote at the helm but its really only to change the channels that are already preset. I seem to recall there was another handheld remote on the boat somewhere (didn't really get my attention when I was trying to learn all the other stuff about the boat). I'll try to track that down this weekend but if all else fails I appreciate the contact numbers for Australia.

Once again, thanks guys.

are all the other controls working? volume, etc. I don't use my radio but setting preset usually only involves holding down the button for a few seconds. can you find your stations and the set without the screen?

The power switch, the volume control and the bass, treble and fade controls all work but otherwise all the other controls are useless. They may work but I cant tell without the display. I don't seem to be able to work out which buttons need to be pressed to cycle through the stations and unfortuantely the manual I have is a little different to the actual model I have. However, your post Wishtofish made me look on the internet for a CMD4 manual which I have now downloaed so I will see how I get on at the boat this weekend. Thanks wish2fish.

Wish2fish: That's the DVD player for the TV.

"if you capable of taking radio apart you could try to reset ribbon connector going from head unit to hinged faceplate. if ribbon is not broken, resetting it should fix the problem".

Thanks boatmailster. I wondered if that might have something to do with the problem. When you say 'reset' what exactly do you mean? Remove the connector and reseat it or are you referring to using the reset button on the unit?

Thanks
