I also kept thinking that you had an SLX, not a Sun Deck.:smt021 The SLX is not self bailing. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Don't apologize. It's been a good discussion and I learned something about the SLX. Thats a fine looking boat by the way and I like the Hull color as it breaks up the white without the high maintanance of red or black.

Okay, now I see what you are saying. I haven't seen my boat in 5 months, but I think I have a couple scuppers that drain into the bilge. We get water in there from time to time...
Does the bathroom floor on the 270 SLX also have a drain that empties into the ski locker/bilge? This is a complaint on the 290 Sundeck - it is one thing to have the scuppers with fresh water, but I do not like when the toilet water "slops" out and into the ski locker. I am looking to add a hose and a 1 gallon container to catch overflow that I can empty if/when needed. Other than that, I have gone to "large plastic storage bins" in the ski locker to keep things dry.

I have never had anything splash out of the head. We've really never had water in the head to drain, so I'm not sure where the scupper drains.

IMHO - You have to much water in the bowl if you are getting "slop" or somebody is missing the bowl(Grin). Even on my 240SD in some real rough seas never had "slop" in the head.

Do you have the dry mats in your floor ski locker?

Yes - I have the dry mats but the drain for the head is at "hatch level" with no drain hose and any spillage must drip to the floor of the ski hatch covering everything in its way. Correct, it is not a ton of water left in the bowl (vacuflush head) but enough to bring any bacteria which then can grow nicely on everything in the ski locker environment ... problem easily solved by attaching a drain hose to the floor drain with a small container to catch any run off. Simply a poor design IMO by SR for draining the head compartment - easily fixed.

wow you 240sd guys are self bailing? how about the ones around the motor housing/seat? Mine has a tube that does right to the bilge. I have the 260sd which should be the same...
On the 240 the 1 1/2"+-tube/fitting goes out via a through-hull fitting. There is one on both sides of the boat.

I thought the 260SD was the same way, but is has been a while since I looked at it. Check that fitting I think you will find that it has a tube that is directing the water out via a through-hull fitting.

2005 Sundeck - Stupid Questions
1. Where is the fuse panel located? I've looked everywhere including the head. No map to this hidden treasure in the owners manual.
2. Is there a way to attach an mp3 player to the standard Clarion AM/FM/CD/Sirius sound unit?

Fuse panel is located under the dash. You access via the starboard storage area. Remove the panel on the top of the storage area and you have access to it.

Not sure about the MP3 player, but on the 2006 you have a aux port next to the stereo head unit in the starboard storage area.

I had a 2005 200SD and I also had AUX inputs on the stereo. So, it won't charge or get title/artist kind of stuff to display, but you can play your ipod's audio through the system (I did all the time). And yes, Chuck1 is right. At least on the 2005 200SD, the fuse panel was up behind the dash. I also had a couple of inline fuses in the battery compartment and even on in the engine compartment (at least I think).

Canvas question on 2005 240SD

I was ordering the front & side curtains for my 2005 240SD and the nice folks at Great Lakes said i would have to install snaps on the front windshield frame. I was a little confused as the manual shows the channel on the frame that uses the rubber extrusion on the curtain and I definately have the channel on the windshield. They said that Searay stopped using that in 2004. The boat did not have the curtains when i purchased the boat last year, just the bimini top, so i am not sure.
Can someone confirm?

I just ordered yesterday from them...
I was going to cross that bridge when i get too it. So i am curious as to what others say. I was thinking that if i have to put snaps on the windshield that those snaps might rub the cockpit cover if i don't have the camper top on....

Hello All, I have been lurking here for a week or so while looking at used Sea Ray boats. I have read thru all the pages of the 240SD thread and appreciate all the info. We are on Sanibel Island in Florida.

I am looking at a 2002 240 Sundeck that shows 170 hours on the meter. This boat was recently relocated to Florida from Michigan so she has spent the majority of its life in fresh water. The boat is immaculate and looks near new. All the fittings are clean and corrosion free, gel coat is still shiny and the the engine looks new. It has a full camper enclosure which looks new. There are a couple of gell coat cracks behind the most aft seats on the opposite side of the walk thru door. I tested all the systems and only found 2 aux lights inop.

We did a sea trial it today. As soon as the engine started I could hear a fairly noticeable ticking/clicking noise which seemed to come from the left rear of the engine while looking at the engine from the inside deck. The noise did seem to quiet down after the temps came up but was still noticeable. The noise did seem to change with rpms.

I also noticed that the engine temp on the dial temp gauge was between the 170 and 220 mark. This year model does not have the digital gauge. The owner was not concerned but I was. The engine operated smooth. We were able to reach a speed of 45 mph per my handheld gps, and it might have gained more speed if we had more open water.

After we returned to the dock I felt the risers and the left riser was significantly warmer than the right, once again viewing from the inside deck. These are the original risers (wow 8 or 9 years old). The raw water pump and I think another pump were replaced recently according to some receipts.

The owner is going to bring the boat to a shop to have temp issue looked at. I also asked to have a compression test done and a diagnosis of the ticking/clicking noise.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

When he has it in the shop to check the temp, have him also have the exhuast manifold gaskets checked. One of mine went bad on the 240 and it sounded like metal on metal ticking. Our 5.7 ran right around 175, but would climb up to about 200 when idling after it was hot.
