I never left the dock on the last leg. Is there something I should do to officially drop out?

Briefing LEG 4

Briefing 16 December 2008
Fourth Leg - Volvo Ocean Race Game

Leg 4 - Singapore to Qingdao
Departing Singapore in mid-January, the fleet will be sent off from the outside of the Malacca Straight to avoid any risks of congestion or running aground with the hundreds of small islands located in this area.

  • A bit of advice for all our competitors - Although this leg looks pretty straight-forward with a start and a finish marks; the chart shows dozens of islands along the way to Qingdao. So beware and keep your eyes wide open. The route to Qingdao is free and you can choose to sail east or west of Taiwan for example.
  • As usual, be reminded that if you cannot be online at the starting time, your boat will be started automatically on the best angle for the first few hours to allow you to first login, however we cannot guarantee that your boat will take the most optimal course.
THE START

  • Sunday, 18 December 2008, Starting Signal 13:00 (local) or 06:00 GMT+1
THE COURSE - Length approx. 2,500 miles

See you out on the race course...

No repair kit but I'm very confused about the positions,, The boat in 1st place is 2195 miles from the finish, I'm 29295th and I', only 2186 mile from the finish....?? doesn't that make me in front of him? I'm cornfuzed

I second that.. as of right now, I am 2179 miles in 23,000 place while the 1st place boat is 2195 miles away.. I dont get it..

Does everyone have the same starting time?

Here is something that I found out in their Forum about Ranking...
To understand the system it is best to look at the RESULT and the TOP 100.
After 3 legs only the best leg is counting.
Therefor we has 3 boats with overall 1 and position 1 (ey equo).
Then we have 3 boats with overall 2 and position 4 (ey equo).
Then we have 3 boats with overall 3 and position 7 (ey equo) and so on.
Thereefor the only rule is:
Your position is lower (because of boats with 2 or 3 good legs) then 3times your best leg.
And as much as your position is higher as much you will be better then 3 times the overall.
It helps to look at Rasanne :

leg 1 35232
leg 2 5
leg 3 20
overall 5
position 12
But when it comes to position 20 Rasanne does not count, therefor there are only 2 boats with overall 20!
That is the reason that you cannot have an exact formula for your position.

If this is the case, then, in order to verify your own ranking, it would be necessary to see the entire results list above your ranking, not just the top 100 or the few around you. (we may ask them to give us this capability)

Howegver, I think your methodology only works because we have only done 3 legs, what happens when more of the legs are complete? How will they average the results together? Will it be weighted on distance, a 1000 positioning in the 13,000 nm eg 5 is not the same as the 1000 position finish on the 1950 nm leg 3. Or will they weight it on number of boats in the leg? Certainly a 1000 position finish is more significant if there are more boats. Leg 3 saw an additional 20,000 boats over leg 2, which was also significantly higher than on leg 1.

The rules only specify that they will combine the results into an overall score, dropping several of the worst legs.

I am simply playing the game for the fun of it, and IF I happen to win anything other than a good time, I consider myself extremely lucky.
:huh:Not sure if this helps any:huh:

So I would not really worry about the ranking number, I look at distance to the finish for everyone. My goal is on betting you guys and if I move up in the over-all ranking as well that a bonus.

About Starting Time...Yes we all start at the same time, but they state all the boats will follow the Pilot boat (system boat running slowly on the last 25% of the fleet), until the player signs in and starts sailing their boat.:smt024

I think Tutle Tone got a free repair kit for taking first in our group as a prize in the last leg...

I am have fun and now trying to pass Collindale...

Hey I'm just trying to finish in the top 5 of our group, I was leading at one time in the last leg then made a bat wind call and I think I ended in the bottom 5 of our group. Stupid wind, I could have done better in my Sundeck(Grin)

Thats my goal, as of right now in 6th place in the group. But I'm moving up :smt038.

If the wind forcast is close to accurate, tomorrow the pack will break up. There is a big dead spot coming..
