Where did you find the new material? How is your windshield rubber?Got the new seal installed - removed the vent window actuator and tipped it up for better clearance - found out that the window will drop out the bottom of the hinge - a little surprised, but no damage done!
Cut the new pieces to length, mitered the corners - a sharp razor blade did a nice job - fit them into the channels. They fit tight. I was planning to put some silicone behind the gaskets as there was some old nasty behind the originals, but as tight as they fit I didn't think it was necessary. ( Hopefully I won't regret that. ) I did silicone/seal the mitered joint. New seal looks great! The hinge profile slid onto the window channel, I installed the window and it snapped into the frame channel. Have used it quite a few times and it has stayed in place!

You are correct about that location being the fill and vent. Owners Manual Chapter 3 says use hydraulic oil meeting Mil Spec H-5606A and fill to within 1/2" of filler hole.
On mine I don't think I can see down a half inch. Please post your results if you can. Good luck.
New question re: steering. I've searched the forum and didn't see this addressed, so I apologize if it's a duplicate inquiry.
The steering seems to becoming increasingly stiff, both at idle and cruising, with an actual intermittent "creaking" when I turn the wheel. I'm assuming the small screw-cap on top and at the base of the (very short) steering column is for the addition of steering fluid. Could someone please confirm that for me?
Moving forward with my assumption, what kind of fluid do you use? How much? How do you know when it's full (or over-full)? Or have I completely missed the mark on this and I should be looking in a different direction?

I got the material from Flounder Pounder - see posts #1351 and 1352 for the part numbers. The windshield is not rubber, but there is a rubber sealing "c" channel that covers the hinge.Where did you find the new material? How is your windshield rubber?

The buzzer for the monitor should be under the dash near the monitor. It looks like a little round circle with two wires coming off of it.Location of audible alarm for system monitor? Mines not working. Lights light but no noise. Please help. Thanks.
Getting ready to replace at least one of my fuel pumps due to starting/fuel flow issues. I've seen some attractively priced alternatives on Amazon vs the OEM pumps for around $250. Anyone use aftermarket pumps? Are they any good?

When I did the repower in my boat over the winter of 2019, I removed the seawater pump/fuel pump assembly and went with an electric fuel pump and a crank driven sea water pump. I was tired of having to blind reach the sea water pump when changing impellers on the starboard motor.
I mounted the fuel pump and the engine mounted fuel filter on a piece of plywood and attached the set up to the engine room bulkhead.
So far, the setup has been real good. Great water flow for cooling. Had an issue where the original electric pump I installed was failing, so I replaced both recently with these:

Thanks for the info. I haven't been back to the boat since I got the fluid, so I'll try what you said, especially about the "few drops". I had expected it would take a little more than that. IIRC, the manual says to fill until you can see the fluid a 1/4" from the top of the fill neck. I figured it wouldn't take much, but more than a few drops. I'm glad you saw some improvement in performance. Mine seems to be working OK, I just want to take care of as a preventative approach. Power steering is good now. I happened to be in the neighborhood of a MarineMax in Osage Beach and picked up steering fluid there. Fill process was pretty old school: Slowly turn the wheel back and forth while trickling fluid into the port. 15 minutes and a few drops later, everything works back to normal. Several outings and steering is on track and smooth.
I replied to your post on the other thread you created.I have a 92 400 EC with 7.4L mercruisers. I had the starboard fuel pump go out on me the other day, so I pulled the fuel pump/water pump assembly. Since I had it out, I went ahead and replaced the impeller in the water pump. I put everything back together and started the engine. Fuel problem is gone, but now there is no water going through engine.
Started the engine and still no water coming out the engine
- Pulled the pump again and verified the impeller is turning.
- Slowly opened the seacock to verify which line was the inlet
- Reattached the lines with inlet on bottom and outlet on top
What am I doing wrong?
You may want to do some tests on the strainer and seacock to make sure everything is ok there. start by removing the strainer cover and check the strainer itself. Then open the seacock while the strainer cover is off to see how much water is coming out. It should have some flow to it.Update - Pulled the pump again and tested to see if it was working and connected correctly. To test, I bought a 2ft length of clear plastic hose from home depot. I attached on one end of the pump and filled the tube with water, then I rotated the pump pulley. When the tube is on the inlet port and pump is working, the water got sucked out of the tube and flowed out the other port. If the tube is on the outlet, turning the pulley will cause air bubbles to show in the tube.
Based on the test, I determined I had the lines reversed. I reinstalled the pump with the lines in the correct position, fired it up and the water flowed!
Ironically, the test confirmed that I had installed the pump correctly the first time. However, I hadn't seen any water coming out, so I assumed I connected wrong, pulled the pump and reversed the lines.
I suspect the pump is not self priming. I pulled the pump on the port engine to replace the impeller on that side. To avoid issues, I made sure to mark the inlet and outlet. I also did the tube test to double check the pump is functional. I reinstalled, but after a few drips, no water came out of the exhaust again!
My plan tomorrow is to shut the seacock and clean out the strainer. Then I'm going to pull the inlet hose, fill it with water and reattach it. That should prime the pump and should solve the problem. Will keep you posted.
